Long time lurker… 2 weeks ago I purchased a 87 GMC stepside with power windows, power door locks and the stock 350 engine, currently it runs perfect and the 700r4 isnt bad either. The thing I like about it is there isn’t one thing on it that’s broken (bezels, plastic parts etc) in great condition except for the paint.
In the past 2 weeks I installed a remote start/ door lock unock on it, driver’s window motor. Also purchased a steering column without shifter so I can relockate to a B&M floor shifter.

3 days after purchasing the truck I bought a complete lm7 from a 01 Silverado, should get here on 4/7/15 once I pick it up ill send the harness off to get it converted.

I know it isn’t everything I need but ill pick up more as I need it. I will hopefully take pics as I go but it always ends up being difficult as I just want to get the job done. Im going with a 4l80e trans, larger posi rear end with 3.42 gear (currently has open diff an 3.08 I think it is. After that stuff is installed ill start the turbo build and get a rear stack on the passenger side step for exhaust. Hope you like it…….

Very cool build. I had an 86 4x4 that I loved. Will be a great project. You mentioned an LS1 from a silverado. You are aware that 01 silverado's do not have LS1's in them right? It is an LS based iron block engine with truck intake and accessories.
truck looks great, dont see much for stepsides around much. thought bout installing a stepside bed on my cusom 4 door. I like the phantom grille. ls power where its happening. be awesome truck finished converted.
thanks, I got the motor today its in the back of the truck ill take a pic when i can... on a side note. I aquired a steering column without the wiper stock on the column, it just has the tilt and blinkers. Can i convert the steering column by stripping the column down and installing the wiper stock/turn signal from my auto steering column, or should i just sell it and look for pone that has wipers/turn signal etc on the column?
Sweet truck dude! I love these old square bodies and have an '89 K5 that I'm gathering parts for a 5.3/4l80e swap. If you haven't already bought the LS6 cam I'd definitely look at some other options. They have pretty mixed reviews from guys with the 5.3 (which I'm assuming is the motor you actually got from the Silverado) since they were made for a larger displacement engine and shift the power too high in the rpm range for most people. Something like the Isky Triple 12 would be a great choice since it's designed for boost but works great in NA trucks also.

I used the ratchet straps to pull the pallet, motor to the edge of the truck, then backed up on the lower part until the engine stand was about 2 inches off the ground.
now.... my motor on a stand...
LT1Swap.com has great wiring info. I done 2 truck harnesses now using it. Not to bad to do yourself, I did mine living room floor watching tv. Wire cutters, tape, solder & heat shrink, little torch. Go junkyard get yourself a small underhood fuse box with cover to wire in couple relays,etc. Want help hollor away to me.

good idea, thanks for the info, havent had to much time today, but i got the ps, alt, bracket, ac/bracket, motor mount and 1 exh mani off. hopefully when the wife gets back ill be able to get everything except heads off of it today...
hope you dont have any broken exhaust manifold bolts broken in head(common Ls problem). Best way to get out if can is to weld a nut to them & screw them out. you have harder time if that doesnt work.
