Default Newbie on LS swap, fuel delivery questions

Hello,

I have been searching around a lot lately and can't figure out what to do with what I believe is the return line from the fuel rail. There is a lot of talk about return and returnless systems, and it confuses me. This is a 2000 LS1 from a Corvette. That fact was established by looking att block casting numbers.

The motor has got the fuel inlet on only one of the two fuel rails. Between the rails there is a crossover with what looks like a regulator and a hose sticking out of it (with some sort of threaded fitting).

Is that the return line that goes straight back to the tank?

Question number two: Would you recommend installing the EFI retrofit fuel pump with sump available from Tanks Inc? It looks nice and I would rather not ship a whole tank across the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks,

Hundreds of threads here about the Corvette filter/regulator,only one line from the filter to the fuel rail.

Can you post a pic of your fuel rail? It sounds like you may have a 97-98 Corvette engine, they have both a feed and return line on the rail. If you have what you think is a fuel pressure regulator on the rail, and it does in fact have a small vacuum hose attached to it, then its a return style rail.

(borrowed a camera)

The casting on the block says 2000, but maybe the rail is 97-98? The engine served in a Volvo V70 before I bought it... Anything could have happened to this motors setup

Here are the two connections I have on the rail, as seen in the picture, one is directly to the rail and the second one is connected to the crossover. All schematics I have seen so far only uses one single fuel line between filter/regulator and motor. That is why I am confused. So, the rubber hose (smells gasoline) with connector goes straight back to the tank?

Looks like a returnless setup..

The fuel line will go back to the corvette filter/regulator, then theres 2 lines coming out of it (1 goes to the main fuel pump, the other is the return back to the tank)

Returnless rail. threaded fitting on the end is for checking Fuel pressure and volume. Cap that and use the right fitting on the rail.( Which has the hose sticking off it)

And please don't use that hose and clamps when you install it in the car!

The Tanks, Inc. retrofit sump works well, but the Skylark tank might be too shallow.

Why not modify your existing strainer and use a walbro 255 external?

I'll make a more handsome connection.

Wouldn't come as much of a surprise if the retrofit sump pump does not fit. I have been out of luck lately when it comes to my automobiles. Min 6" height is needed for it, I will measure mine later this evening.

edit: tanks inc state that their oe replacement tank measures 7 3/4" in height, yay. It is tapered, but the thicker end is in the front.

That pump is affordable even in Sweden. You mean adding a sump to the tank or an outside buffer?
