Default lm7 swap th350 problems

When I put the truck in gear it doesn't actually go into any gear you can hear the linkage move but doesn't actually go in to gear. I've removed the cooler lines at the radiator and nothing no fluid comes out with the engine on. I filled the torque converter with fluid and let it sit over night before installing it in the trans and onto the motor. I checked the torque converter to flex-plate spacing only 1/2 inch of play, shimmed this no help. At a loss at this point thinking trans that ran fine behind the old 350 has just gone bad? im thinking of just adding more and more fluid i probably have 4 quarts in the converter and 7 in the trans (adding and checking the level since 3 quarts) I don't want to add more fluid just to empty a bad transmission.
**side note is that the level on the dipstick doesn't come up as a clear this is where the fluid is**
Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance!

sounds like the torque convertor is not turning the pump gears in tranny pump. you shouldnt be able to get any fingers between torque convertor and tranny case in front of pan. If too far out it wont turn pump. other I would say pump gear is broken. If it was enguaged it would spit fluid out.

I went to check on the spacing I can barely get the tips of my fingers in there, not sure how else I can space the torque converter to get it to sit further back. I've tried some machined flat washers maybe a 1mm thick and it didnt help what so ever. Also when I put the washers the converter only moved 1/4-1/2" back and forward like it should?

not the greatest photo but heres the spacing

I done this same thing in past. the 2 ears that convertor enguages in front pump of tranny probably broke. pump cant be turning otherwise you would have fluid pressure. only way to know is pull the tranny & look behind seal for the notches on gear. do you have the adaptor on back of flywheel to center convertor?

Ok, so I've replaced the old th350 with a th400 (got a great deal). I have installed the new trans but, I seem to have the same issue looks like the torque converter is too far forward. I did seat it properly but me and a buddy manhandling the damn thing it might have moved out of place, how can I be certain that it's seated properly?

normally you cant get finger tips in bottom(pan side) btween pump and convertor when all the way in. Are you able to get tranny and block tight together without forcing it tight? When tranny out there should be 3 clicks to get convertor all enguaged into front pump.

Thanks for the reply again, yeah when we positioned the trans it was seated(had it up on the tranny jack) then we had to use some force to get it to slide on (trans to engine) but the bolts didn't suck it down.

I know I did the th350 by myself and I did use the bolts to pull the transmission to the block, which the pump was in fact broken when I removed the th350

well if tranny mated to motor ok and torque convertor spins free your probably fine. If it don't turn freely then its not seated in pump rite. If spins free and you fell it needs to be back a little bit just put a washer between convertor & flywheel.
