So I guess the simple question is do you know the pad elevation difference ? I went ahead and ordered one today so I guess I will see next week if I keep it or send it back .
Also I have a 9" ford in the Elco .
If you mean the difference between the Hooker and the stock crossmember, no, I don't...I spend little time evaluating the stock components as they were designed to work with the geometry of the old-school GM components and usually offer the user no benefits related to a modern powertrain (other than budgetary benefits).
This I can tell you...the pad height on the Hooker crossmember is designed to directly pick-up the mount on a 4th-gen F-body T56, which has a mount attachment plane that is 5/16" further away from the transmission output shaft center line than the mount attachment plane of a T56 Magnum transmission (the crossmember hardware pack includes a 5/16" spacer to make up this difference and maintain the same engine inclination angle with the T56 Magnum transmission).
You have done yourself a great service by choosing to use a Ford 9" rearend as its lower pinion height will provide you with decreased U-joint working angles over what is possible to achieve in an A-body with a GM 10 or 12 bolt rearend. The inclusion of the 5/16" spacer also allows you to leave it out of a T56 Magnum installation if doing so improves your U-joint working angles further.
These are popping up on ebay now, I know Holley is selling them there. Once the next sale rolls around I'm going to grab one and see how it compares to the Gforce, Bowite Overdrives and stock pieces. Will try to take some measurements using points on frame as reference, but it might be a couple months. Either way, it's cool that it's finally here.
If you have been following this thread you have seen some pics of my GTO that Todd used for development of the 68-72 A-body LS system. To say the least my car was a little rough around the edges; well the crusty old girl has come a long way. After blasting the body it was determined that it would required replacement of both quarters, outer wheel houses, trunk floor and a mini tub to fit the 345/19 rear tires. The frame has been boxed with a FX kit from Hellwig, narrowed and plated in the rear and all the factory seams were ground and TIG welded. Suspension consists of Speedtech AFX spindles, SPC A-Arms, double adjustable Varishocks and Hellwig sway bar. The rear consist of a Currie 9" with their upper and lower control arms, coil over conversion, Hellwig rear bar and UMI braces. Brakes are C6 Z06 front and rear. For the interior, I am using BMW M3 convertible seats, Just Dashes/Autometer instrument cluster, Classic Air AC and power windows and locks. The remainder of the interior will be 1970 GTO. Paint should be completed by the end of March and then back home for final assembly.
I have said it before and I will say it again the Hooker Blackheart LS A-body conversion system made the LS swap easy, the parts are excellent quality and fit is perfect. I would highly recommend this this system to anyone considering this conversion.
I can't wait to drive the car up to LS Fest in September and hanging out with a bunch of gearheads! Here are a some pics of the progress.
968ls1- Great words!
Toddoky- It must feel great on how well the Holley/Hooker swap products are being received. Never before has there been such a COMPLETE product line that has now been proven to WORK and FIT well! It's nice to have one-stop shopping for stuff like this!
Toddoky, first of all I want to express my appreciation for the information and insight you've made public in this thread! Seeing the R&D that goes into this really gives me a much higher appreciation for Holley products.
How are you attaching the Mac's pivot to your engines, do the carb holes happen to line up with holes in the LS valley? Thanks!
Thanks for voicing your appreciation. The Mac's lift plate is attached to the valley cover bolts, but I'll have to take a close look at it to see if the holes in it had to be modified to match up.
So guys just wanted to give a little update to the new cross member for the boxed framed chevelles . Got to install it last weekend and it fits great . I gained more room in the tunnel and on the 3" exhaust . Also it is built as a quality piece . It also put my engine and trans down a little bit more . So as of now it is dropping 2.9 deg down . Thanks Holley and Todd for finally bringing this to the consumer !!
Just ordered one, $267 on ebay, I can live with that. Now if someone can get Holley to drop their arcane product numbering things will really be easy. Numbers like 71222021HKR and etc give the buyer zero clue about the product or its use and make comparing things a pain in the ***. One thing at a time I suppose.

If you need any specific info, just send me a PM chuckd71.
It just came in today, looks like a pretty solid piece. I honestly wasn't expecting too much from it given the general race to the bottom approach of huge companies these days (never had doubts about the design though) but it's actually hefty and feels good, plus it looks cool.
Good job on the design though, would recommend 100%.

Thanks for your initial positive report. What engine brackets are you going to be using the crossmember with?
I have dirty dingo sliders in the car now but have the more rearward holly mounts on the shelf. From the pictures it looks like I already have my engine more or less where they would put it.
