Default 370 into 91 1LE Z28

So, soon I will begin swapping a rebuilt 6.0 into my thirdgen 1LE car. Its been a long time coming and I'm glad it will be in soon. I know this is a fairly common swap but I just figured Id add a build thread for the fun of it. For the past 6 or 7 months I've been buying the needed parts and getting ready to swap. I'm looking to do some weekend bracket or index racing with it along with some occasional street driving. Ill be posting plenty of pics and such as I go along. Next week Ill be taking the block over to Morgan and Son Racing engines to have the machine work done and the short block assembled. Heres a list of what the engine will be.

-3.2cc Wiseco Forged Pistons,
Lunati Voodoo Hbeam rods,
Stock Crank
Clevite H bearings,
ARP head and main studs,
SLP double roller timing chain set
SLP ported oil pump.
Jegs 25%underdrive balancer/crank pulley
Custom Lunati cam specd by Lloyd Elliot (231/239 .622/.629 111 LSA)
Llyod Elliot ported 706 heads with lunati double springs and 2.02/1.60 valves
Jegs 1.7 Roller rockers
Fast 90mm intake and 90mm throttlebody w 42bl injectors
Hawks/Stainless Works 1 3/4 long tube headers

Behind the motor is a locally built 4l60e with 4000 Billet Circle D stall going to a mostly stock 3.23 10 bolt. I will be swapping the 10 bolt for a quick performance 9 inch in a month or two (probably once uncle sam gives me back some of my tax money)

Well I had some delays but I got the block and all the bottom end parts dropped off at Morgan and Son last night. 4-6 weeks turn around time and ill have my shortblock back. In the mean time we will be pulling the engine and repainting the engine bay getting ready for its new heart. I ordered and received a new adjustable tunnel mount torque arm from Alston Racing as well. Similar design to the Jegster unit Jegs no longer sells. We are planning to get this swap completed real fast once the engine is back so that we can then move on to an ls1 swap into my buddies 68 Firebird. We are hoping to have both cars ready to roll for the Hotrod Power Tour in June.

Thanks, should hopefully get to pulling the L98 out this weekend. I've followed yours over on TGO, awesome car and attention to detail on your part.

Well I did what I do best..... Bought some more stuff!!!! Got an Alston racing adjustable torque are setup. Its the one that mounts to the trans tunnel like the Jegster unit. Also picked up this beauty below as a spur of the moment buy. Moser 9inch, 4th gen width, came with LT1 calipers (not in pictures) extra chrome moly spool, gear install kit, and set of 4.88 Richmond pro gears. The unit has an aluminum spool and 4.33 gears installed. Paid $1400 for it and the guy delivered it to me from 120miles away. I'm gonna sell the extra gears and both spools and buy a locker for it. I think I'm gonna go ahead and keep the 4.33s for now.

Progress!!!!! Out with the old, soon to be in with the new! We pulled the engine out weekend before last, and this last sunday we finished cleaning out the engine bay of non essentials so that we can get it painted up. This coming weekend we are going to repaint the engine bay. I'm gonna paint the engine bay black. I have a cpl reasons behind this, I'm about 50/50 split on changing the cars color after shes up and running. She needs to be repainted for sure and I'm torn between keeping it artic white or painting it black or a nice charcoal gray. I figure the black engine bay is kind of neutral, it will work with most any color body, lots of cars have come from the factory with black engine bays and different body colors. Plus if she does stay white it will have black accents/stripes so I think it will work either way I go down the road. Any thoughts on this?

Well more pics to come after this weekends work session. Engine builder should be calling soon for me to pick up the motor. Cant wait!

Last pic of the car with the original powertrain

Dirty Dirty TPI.... I haven't really done anything to this engine bay since buying the car, shes dirty but ran like a champ.

So I got a little more done. Got the engine bay all cleaned and painted. No signs of rust in the seams... She has been a North Tx car 99% of her life, looking good. Now I'm getting my intake and valve cover cleaned up. My buddy is gonna hydro dip them carbon fiber. If it think it looks too ***** Ill just paint back over them.... Heard from my engine builder, should have the short block later this week!!!!!!! Then the real progress begins.

Engine bay nice and black

Well look what followed me home today! My short block is back... Would have been done last week but we changed cams at the last minute so I had to wait for the new one to come in. It took a while but so far I'm pretty happy. I know the work from them is very high quality so I don't mind that it took a while. And they took care of me and had very fair pricing. Assembled with clevite h bearings.

Come Saturday we are going to put the rest of the motor together and hopefully sunday get it and the trans stabbed in the car. Lots of pictures to come sunday night or Monday.....

Well a little more progress though not as much as I had hoped. Things went slow sat and sunday. We did manage to get the PTV clearance checked, and the pushrod length measured. I have to order the pushrods tomorrow. Going with Manton 11/32'' units. Measured out that I need stock length 7.4'' pushrods so I installed some of my buddies units and checked the wipe pattern on the valve stem as well. Looks pretty good I think. Got my intake back, I decided not to have it dipped at this time. I think the gloss black looks good. No racing this weekend and my GF is working so the plan is to install the motor and get to plumbing the fuel and coolant lines. I have AN lines now for fuel, the steam lines and trans cooler lines...I'm about to be sick of assembling hoses I know....

Block was drilled for a chain dampener so I picked one up and installed it real quick.

A couple coats of Chevy Orange followed by some clear. A painted motor is a happy motor.

Well, I'm still alive. No real progress on the car other then spending more money! I have changed a few plans with the car and If I'm repeating myself from an earlier post then I'm sorry. Its been a while since I updated so I cant remember what all has been said here. First, the biggest thing that has changed is the transmission. This car is going to see a lot more track time then street time now so I decided the 4L60E wouldn't cut it. I now have a built TH400 with Griner 1+2 pro tree transbrake. The unit was built by Mr Wendells Motorsports here in DFW. Its paired with a BTE nitrous converter. Ive also ordered my direct port nitrous kit from Nitrous Outlet. I got this kit a couple months ago through a friend that is one of their dealers. Right now the intake is down in Waco getting plumbed by them and should be ready at the end of the week. I have also decided to ditch the stock GM computer and harness and run the Holley Dominator EFI system. Its a bit of overkill for me right now but gives me plenty of room to grow. Ive been busy just making money and waiting on the trans to get built, I could have made some more progress but have been a little lazy. As soon as I get back from my cruise in a few weeks we should get rolling.... here are some more pics!!!
