Hooker 1964-67 A-body LS swap system preview thread
#106
I've established the basic design geometry of the engine brackets; what's depicted in the photo represents what will be seen in both the forward bias and rear bias sets of engine brackets. As with the Hooker 68-72 A-body brackets, they are designed to be used with 4th-gen F-body engine mounts.
I'm now moving on to the design of the transmission crossmember. As some of you know, the crossmember attachment hole pattern/form in the 67 frames is different than what it is on the 64-66 frame, so what I come up with will have to be compatible with both frames and provide support for TH400,2004R,4L60-4L70, 4L80/4L85, T56 and T56 Magnum transmissions.

Todd,
I just wanted to say that I am thrilled Holley decided to let you design a system for the early A-body. Looking forward to more information and your progress photos. I really appreciate your dedication and the hard work you put into these systems. Thanks, from an early A-body guy!
Have you started a thread on this system over at the Chevelle site?

There are always continuous improvement activities going on as part of the manufacturing process, so if there were issues early on I'm sure they been ironed out.
Stroker-capable revisions to the 302-2 pan have been discussed amongst the product management team, but I have no idea what the plans might be as I don't work in that part of the business...I just develop all the Hooker LS swap products.

I finished the mock-up of the transmission crossmember this morning and it has been digitized and brought into our CAD system to begin modeling the final assembly. Progress is moving forward as expected, so long-tube header prototyping will begin next week.

1989GTA...the crossmember will come in at 25 lbs. and the rail adapter plates that attach to each frame rail are 6 lbs. each.
The rail adapters represent the same approximate weight, and extra frame stiffening, that would be associated with the OE boxed sections of the convertible and El Camino frames. In other words, their weight comes with a
performance benefit.
The crossmember will be able to be used to mount a T56, T56 Magnum, 4L80/4L85, 4L60-4L70, TH400 or 2004R transmission.

For you guys wanting to run the truck FEAD with the forward-bias Hooker engine brackets and a Delphi 600 PS box...it fits, as long as you swap out the truck PS pulley for one off of a 1993-95 4.3L V6 F-body PS pump.

"The Holley accessory drive set-up fit real well with the Delphi 600 PS box using the Hooker forward-bias engine brackets..."
I am using the Holley accessory drive on my 65 Skylark and it fits and works just fine. Plenty of clearance. I have the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box.
