Default First gen with Hooker swap parts - T56 shifter location?

Anyone who's used the Hooker/Holley swap parts able to comment or better yet have any picture of their shifter location compared to the factory 4 speed shifter hole?

Thanks

I can't comment on the factory 4 speed location, but I went with the Holley stuff on my 68 firebird the t56 shifter comes up right about 16" back from the very bottom lower edge of the dash in front of it.

Have mine installed but not running. You will have to flip the stock shifter around 180 degrees. The shifter will come up almost in the center of the hole. You will need to trim some small half moons on the opening sides to clear the shifter.

I'm sure if you used a Hurst or White Lightning shifter you wouldn't need to touch the hole at all.

Even tho I trimmed mine, I think I might be able to run the stock boot. Planning on a 5th gen console, but even the stock one would fit.

Yep. Using Holley's complete system. Also using f-body FEAD without notching subframe. Thats another story tho. Here you go...

Sweet! Thanks man. Can't tell you how happy that makes me.

Think I'll proba trim the whole thing so I can replace the shifter without dropping the trans and then just use an oversized boot.

That's my thinking too. Just couldn't bring myself to cut that virgin hole but I think it'd be the best way. I can drop the engine/ trans down enough to remove the shifter, but it's not easy. Especially when you have a bead of rtv on it.

I could tell by the stamped hole instead of the torch cut one in 68/69. I cut my hole originally for my 4 speed swap anyway so I'm not married to it, I just didn't want to have to relocate my console.

One more thing...this is a t56 magnum, not a Camaro/ GTO.

Ah crap. The magnum is like 2.5" forward of the Ls style t56.

I know there are shifter relocation options out there...look at the Sikky relocation shifter.

I spoke too soon, it looks like the Sikky shifter relocates it rearward, not forward. I'd steal the mechanism and functional guts out of the Sikky shifter and have a new forward-biased base plate machined.

McLeod has one that does what I need. I'll just have to wait until it's installed and see where I need it though.
