Default LS3 pricing?

Hey everyone, this is my very first post, so your help is greatly appreciated. I have the opportunity to purchase a used LS3 with 43000 miles on it that came from a 2008 Corvette. The motor is complete from oil pan to intake including fuel lines. Also has all front accessories, ECU, and wire harness. I have the opportunity to purchase it for $5,700, is this a good buy or is it too high? I'm not very experienced with this as I'm just starting out in the LS world.

A new LS3 is $5900:

So think of it as getting free accessories, ECU and harness. However, a stock harness is not plug-n-play and the Corvette accessories may not fit your chassis...

So the final answer is "It depends."

I would buy a new one. Unless used one is in car running, you really don't know how it is on the inside. How was it stored? Was the oil changed reg? Etc...

I got a used one from a 08 Corvette, complete, from a guy in Schererville IN. Engine was in great shape, but needed a swap harness and programmed ECU. Bought the engine for 3700, but now I have about 4500 into it (including new timing set).

I paid $3kish for an L92 that had been swapped to 24x and arp rod/ head bolts, new rings etc. Spent another $700ish on cam/springs/valves and $300 on an LS3 intake, so $4,000 more or less. The extra $2,000 vs buying new ($2,700 when considering cam) buys a T-56.
Having said that, other than being able to say it's there, for practical purposes I'm not sure what a 6.2 will do that a 5.3 or 6.0 wouldn't.
Just starting out you might consider getting a cheaper motor running to iron out the kinks. Once you get one in, swapping it out is pretty easy.

Damn. Hard to believe used LS3's cost nearly as much as a new crate motor.

Keep in mind a crate motor does come with a 12 month warranty.
