I currently run a 72 A-body wagon with a 5.3L/4l60e combo...I
have a T56 from a GTO that I'm getting ready to install.

I need advice from those of you that have been down this road...

What master cyl mounting plate...What master cyl...who's/what slave...Who's/what clutch combo...???

Thanks in advance.

I used the stock F-body master and slave cylinder and I bought the mounting plate off of ebay to bolt the master to.

I used a stock F-Body Master and Slave setup. I made a plate to mount the master. I also put together a remote bleeder.

You will most likely have to mod/cut the trans tunnel as it will not fit in without it.lut

I used a Centerforce Duel clutch and a stock fly wheel.

63 chevy II wagon. I'm in the process of installing the McCleod hydraulic setup. I bought a speed bleeder from Tick. I'm using a ls7 clutch and the cts-v slave with a Katech spacer.

Also went the Ebay bracket route, but cut and rewelded to make it fit.

Definitely recommend the remote bleeder, unless you want to cut an access hole in your floor pan. Ask me how I know....

I'm running the factory F-body master, and a Monster Level 2 Clutch. I'm happy with it.

showdog...could you elaborate on the cts-v slave and Katech spacer...do you have to run the spacer with all slaves, or just the cts-v??? Or is it because you are running an ls7 clutch...???

I used stock f-body clutch plate slave and master. Used s and p plate, that was too expensive. Do the remote bleeder. I also cut off the factory ears and brackets off the trans but still had to massage the tunnel.

I got a really good deal on the cts-v trans but had it converted to a gto main shaft so I would have a splined output and run a regular one piece driveshaft. The trans had a new cts-v slave so I decided to go ahead and use it. It is shorter than the ls7 slave because the cts-v has a thick heavy dual mass flywheel hence the reason for the shorter slave. Thats why I got the spacer so I could run the ls7 clutch. If the slave ever dies I'll replace it with a ls7 slave and take out the spacer. When mocking my clutch trans up I ended up having to mill some off the spacer to get my clutch measurements right.

Thanks fellas...really appreciate the help...

One more question...Did anyone do the mid plate shifter conversion, or does the F-body shifter location work???

(I have the rearward mounted GTO shifter on mine now and will have to do something about it when I get ready to install.)

Also, anyone that has pictures of how there shifters and consoles look, those would be great also. (I need some ideas.)

Thanks, again.

On my trans I lucked up when I swapped to a gto main shaft and tail shaft housing. Because the reverse lock out solenoid is in the tailshaft housing I had to have a shift rail machined so I'd still have the feature of the solenoid. Now I can run the shifter in either location. I currently have a bench seat so for now it'll be in the mid shift location. I'm looking for a set of 99-06 gm truck captains bucket seats with the built in arm rest and seat belt and when I do I'll likely move the shifter to the rear location.

I'm using the stock F body location and I'm very happy with the position of the shifter in my 64.

I have a bench seat in mine. With the F-Body Trans and shifter location, the shifter came up right under the front of the seat.

I thought about doing a shifter relocation and all, but I ended up going with a Viper T56 trans that had a more forward location and it cleared the Bench seat.

The trans came with a F-Body input shaft already installed. I had to modify a F-Body Slave to match up with the Viper front plate and the F-Body Bell Housing bolted up to the Viper plate ok.

My shifter is pretty well in perfect position as far as reach goes. As you can see I have the Procar bucket seats. I'll probably just do a shift boot as opposed to buying or building a console.

Correct, F-body T-56. Only variable that might be different is custom firewall smoothing/contouring that let me tuck engine back a little more than a factory install. See here:

This is with the shifter in the stock F-body location. One pic is zoomed in too far and the other is out too far but you get the idea.

My firewall is smoothed as well, but my engine is bolted into the factory bellhousing location.

You all have some nice lookin' stuff...mine's a pretty basic, low budget project in comparison...

One more question...

Does anyone regret going manual...???

I've always had a manual in all my other a-bodys, and hope I enjoy this one as much as I did those...

I absolutely love the 6 speed! When I swapped in the LS I was stepping down in horsepower quite a bit. The car previously had a 540ci bbc and a 383 sbc, both with a powerglide behind them.

I wanted the drive-ability so I could really enjoy the car and take it further then 50 miles away. The 6 speed makes my less powerful setup more fun then ever. It actually brought me back to my teens when the car still had the factory 4 speed in it. Such a blast!
