My second LS swap and definitely a truck I'll keep forever (like my GTO). Truck is originally from Georgia and legitimately 100% rust free. Currently has a 383, th350 and 12 bolt rear with unknown gear ratio (for now). This combo was good for 14.9 at 93. Bought it this past June and LOVE it! I've driven it 5000 trouble free miles since June! But I hate automatics and I want driveable HP.

The plan (very simple):
stock LQ4
mild cam - 207/220, .571/.578 (Lingenfelter)
wet plate nitrous - 200 shot!
2" drop
18s

Here she is!

Wow, nice looking truck! I'm not a fan of the blind spot mirrors. Outside of those, it's amazing! I'm not sure I've ever seen more than a handful of that body with no rust that weren't new or hadn't been restored.

Yea, not sure why I haven't pulled those off yet. I pulled a bunch of other stuff off, like bumperettes, bed rails, stickers and bed mounted spare tire.

When I bought it:

Motor progress so far.

$400 LQ4. Very cheap and very clean. Check out the factory black paint!

As received

There it is

Out with the old

In with the new

Valve springs. Crappy homemade tool but worked great.

Need to figure out oil pan next. Gonna throw the truck on the lift and try to measure. I think the truck pan will be close but many say it hangs below the crossmember....unacceptable for me.

The cheap part of me says modify the truck pan. The lazy part of me says go with the cts-v pan. Thoughts?

Great looking truck. My opinion on the oil pan is to spend the money now and do it right. When I did my swap I used the muscle car pan because it was cheap. Drives me nuts how it hangs 2" below the cross member But I dont really want to pull the car completely apart again.

Thanks!

I know your pain. Did the same exact thing on my GTO. Ended up swapping it out later which sucked. Didn't pull the motor, but I might as well have.

My car has a t56 so I need to pull the trans and lift the motor/take it right out. Might tackle it this winter.

What pan did you swap onto your gto?

After much research, I went with the Mast pan, P/N 401-111 and I couldn't be happier. Fits perfect.....very shallow and narrow in the front so it clears the tie rod ends. At the time, $370 from Pace Performance. Not $135 like the muscle car pan! But worth every penny not to pucker your butthole over every crown in the road.

I swapped mine with the motor and trans(TKO-600) in the car. Disconnected a bunch of stuff and lifted the motor as far as I could....probably 6 or 8 inches. Wasn't fun, but better than pulling the motor.

On the '77, how high is the bottom of the pan above the bottom of the crossmember? That measurement would be super helpful. And what motor mounts are you using?

Thanks!!!

I had a ctsv pan and almost swapped it in, but it supposedly would hang 1/2" below the k member on the g body with stock mounts and set back plates. It would have been much better then the pan I have now but If I go through with the work involved in pulling the car apart I dont want anything hanging below the k member.

Is the mast pan similar to the holley pan?

unfortunately the '77 has a narrowed crown vic crossmember & fabbed solid mounts

but the 60-66 frame is almost identical to the 73-87 frame up front, same frame width and depth. on that truck the cts-v pan is about 1/2" higher than the crossmember. I had a truck pan on it before and it hung an inch lower than the crossmember.

I used the cheapest ebay 1" setback plates I could find. like $50.

Then for headers I used pacesetters for a trailblazer SS. had to trim the frame about 1/4" on the driver's side.

swapping these trucks is super easy. so much room to work with.

Gorgeous truck, I love the stock colors on there!

I used the stock truck oil pan when I swapped a 5.3L into my old '86 C10. I used the stock frame mounts and used Dirty Dingo adjustable slider mounts meant for the truck. I remember the pan clearing well and not hanging below the crossmember.

I'm not sure, but I'm assuming that's covered somewhere here on LS1tech.

I started this thread from my phone, and for some reason the thread title is not in CAPS, even though I put it in that way. Now, for some reason, I can make edits, but it still won't leave it as CAPS. Anyone know why this is happening? I know it's not a big deal, but it's annoying me.

Thanks for the tip! Sounds like a good plan.

And thanks for the help with the thread title. I hate to bug a moderator with that, but it's really annoying me so I might.
