Ive been working on this car since 2004. For $3k i got the car, 2 cars worth of parts and a stout 454ci motor with powerglide. All that sounded great as i wanted to put together a cruiser with a little power. Of course years go by with nothing done but some primer.
Motivation, peer pressure, some funds and a wedding 2 years ahead of me, finally got the car where it is today.
I have a bunch of pics but not enough battery or time tonight. So heres a little treat for my fellow Impala and big body enthusiast. Off to paint after new quarters. This car use to be a drag car and the previous owner filled every hole w filler, which i knocked out. The rear quarters were dented and rippled from the body flexing. Painted in Cadillac Diamond White Flat red painted dash 18s and 20sLooking good!Now it needs some fenders and time to lower it down a bit. Of course this is LS1tech, so i threw a 6.0 in backed by a 4L60E.

Tear down time on this 6.0. It doe have an LS6 cam. Fbody pan Tried using this taller intake but ended up being way too tall. I didnt want to run a camaro intake as i wanted to fill up the engine bay. I mean this LS looked tiny compared to the 454.
Sticking w manual steering so picked up a Speedway Motors alt bracket and Holley AC bracket from Speedway Motors. Ended up installing a Vintage Air conditioning kit. Going to need a diff intake cover to hide that ugly intake. Tossed in a Airaid cold air intake kit, which was super easy to install. Ended up running some stock Fbody exhaust manifolds. Picked up a new intake cover that needed modified to place closer to the firewall. It was hitting the hood when i closed it.
Time to lower it w some bags. 6" AVS bags Too low for stock inner fenders. Will have to make some bump stops to hold the car a few inches off the ground.
Just to back up a bit. Heres the motor and trans before i put it in. Modified the stock trans xmember. Pushed it as far back as i could on the frame and fit perfect. Painted up a pair of stock Fbody exhaust manifolds. A friend machined out some stainless block offs for them. Nice evap plug i picked up from Speedway Motors.
I tried to modify the stock tank and ran an inline MSD pump, but had issues with engine choking out when jumping on the throttle. I believe its because there was no baffling in the stock tank. I then bought an EFI tank from Tanks Inc that has a Walbro pump. This was pry one of my better purchases for the car. Make sure you clock the pickup otherwise the return line will run into the straps. I run the return off the original feed line.
Sorry it's been almost a year since I've posted on this build. Here's what I did with the interior.
Reupholstered seat that came w the car. Wasnt good enough so u had them rerapped in feaux leather to duplicate the original design.
Simple door panels w single piece of factory trim. Worked on the trunk a bit but still not finished. Details are the hard part!
Cleaned up the engine bay a bit. Not car show quality, but nice for a cruiser. Put some Proform slant edge valve covers on from Speedway Motors with some JBA wires.
