Default Ford 8.8 axle question

Tried to search didn't find an answer for my question. Planning to shorten an explorer D4 code 8.8 rear to center drive shaft.

Can I use any passenger side short axle even if it's not from a "posi" 8.8? Found one already unbolted from another rear thats not D4 coded explorer. It's from the correct year range though....

Thanks!

I don't see why not, as long as the spline count and length are right. Diff type has nothing to do with the axles...

Are you doing that to run 31 spline axles as well?

Just to add, diff splines must obviously match axle splines. I also believe that all Explorer 8.8s used 31 spline axles and diffs.

That is also correct. The IRS exploders are obviously different but all standard straight axles are 31 spline

The IRS diffs are also all 31 spline. So if you find a IRS with limited slip, you can swap that diff, etc...into a standard housing.

Thanks, just shortening to center and get the width I need.

I just wanted to make sure that the non-posi short axle was the same part as I lucked into finding one already loose at the yard. Just save me some work when I go back to get a full assembly....
