Default Introducing Project Sandman 1967 Camaro

Picked up a backhalf tubbed 1967 Camaro:

Had BBC and 8-71, pulled and sold it all within the first 48 hours (thanks Al!):

Everything purple I repainted black this weekend:

Phase 1 will be, turbo 5.3 shortblock, TFS 220 heads, turbo converter and TH400. But we will get it running with carb/MSD setup first.

Plan to have car rewired around Aug 1st, then it goes to Manna Motorsports for the motor/trans drop-in. It will also get all the drum brakes pulled and a full set of Strange brakes.

Phase 2, in the fall, will be turbo conversion and EFI.

I will be using as much Holley parts as possible:

Holley Dominator
Holley injectors
Holley fuel pump
Holley 302-2 pan (I have 2 by accident, who wants to buy one!)
Holley High Ram intake

I'd find a big block with an 8-71 to go back in that thing ASAP. Cool project though.

I had no interest in the BBC and 8-71, would not make enough power for my goals.

All dorky stickers have since been removed:

Ugh, this whole panel is gonna get removed:

All bars repainted black. All wiring will be redone end of the month, then motor / trans go in:

With all the Holley stuff, you should rename it Chinaman, lol. I'm all in with Holley on my '67 also, just disappointed in how much stuff is imported.

Thanks Chris B.

M_Min, don't know what to say. It would be nice to be 100 made in the usa in my whole life, but then I wouldn't have a TV, phone, car (2010 was made in Canada), most of my clothes. But my Weber grille is made in the USA. I don't know the percentage of stuff made outside of the USA for the performance aftermarket, but it's not 100% and it's not 50%. I'm guessing under 50%.

I hear you, John. I have their Dominator EFI, turbo manifolds, fuel rails, regulator, oil pan, Injectors, accessory brackets, motor mounts and trans crossmember. Almost all of it made overseas. It's just disappointing that we are paying premium prices for items that I feel could be manufactured here.

Gotcha. Do you have a build thread, I'd love to check out some pics. I plan to run the Dominator, and probably the turbo manifolds if the crossover makes sense for our plan.

Update, the TFS 220 heads got sold on me, so I got some 799s. I am dropping them off with AES to get zero decked. They are going on a SBE 5.3 LM7, this is what I'll run at first.

Update:

--AES resurfaced 799 heads, we don't think it needs a valve job.

--I'm going with truck spacing for accessories. Summit truck SFI balancer and 5th gen Camaro water pump. Probably ICT Billet high passenger side alternator setup.

--Holley 302-2 pan is here.

--Dirty Dingo sliding motor mounts. Setting motor back an inch.

--Going to try repop OE style BBC trans crossmember. Was only $49. Worst case my buddy has to modify it some.

--Ron Rhode tubular core support.

--Mounting turbo on passenger side. Debating how I route the exhaust. Hood exit is ridiculous and intriguing at the same time.

I love my dirty dingo mounts... saved me from driveshaft modification and engine sits perfect. I used the dingo alternator setup and like the design as it seems to not throw belts like others.

You going to use a log manifold and crossover or something else?

Kicked around running the Holley turbo header setup but since the motor will be set back probably just doing truck manifolds. My buddy Anthony @ Manna Performance is doing all the fab work.

Love your project car and where you're going with it John! I recently picked up a '68 Z and am trying to figure out what LS series engine to swap in. LS is pretty new to me but learning a lot on here already.

Looking for swap parts and an oem width (60"?) 12 bolt or 9" rearend for it.

I'm doing turbo 5.3, but if I went NA I would do an alum 417 with about 12:1 compression on E85.

Update:
Heads, stock 799, resurfaced by AES
Shortblock, 2004 LM7 5.3, read to go
Oil pan, Holley 302-2, ready
Motor mounts, Dingo sliders, ready
Summit SFI truck balancer, here
ICT Billet truck spacing alternator bracket, here
5th gen Camaro water pump, here
T400 built by Pete Caira, in process
Converter, picking a used one up from Pete Caira, details later
SFI flexplate, B&M I think, I need to look at the box, here
T400 repop transmission crossmember, here
'67 Camaro repop SBC V8 front coil springs here

Phase 1 dropping in motor/converter/trans but using MSD carb setup to get it running. Between dropping this stuff in and rewiring the car it's a lot of changes.

Phase 2 will be bringing the car back in a couple of months to have Anthony Manna build a the custom single turbo kit. For that phase I need to get:
Holley Dominator EFI system, not ordered
Turbo, have a buddy's turbo in mind, details later
WG, need to order
BOV, picked up one from a buddy, Godzilla one
A/A front mount intercooler, need to research my options
Injectors, plan to get Holley 160s
Fuel pump, not sure yet
I might replace my fuel cell, need to figure that out
