Default Project: Warr Horse - with a touch of “Sloppy Style”

Now before everyone gets to excited, this a Low Budge, High Expectations Build. Meaning this project like a few others will not get finished, due to mainly Money, time. Most parts will come from local pick and pull, CL, and my stash of junk.
Since I'm needing a new Daily Driver, my current one, is starting to get rusty, high miles, last year it took me all weekend to swap engines. And that was me busting my a$$ to get it done in the driveway, used parts are getting hard to find and pricey. And I have FWD cars.
So why not build one that is fairly cheap to fix, with big brakes, big wheels, and decent power. That can be the week end warrior, of not doing much really, but would like to do some open track events, the Ohio Mile, and a few passes down the stripe, before I die. Just turned 40, and now realizing that time is going to fast, and I'm nowhere I thought I would be in my life. It's a struggle just to make the mortgage payment every month, the kid starting college, only 1 income, and I don't have a good paying job. So, that is where the "Warr" part comes from. and the Horse part, I've a hugh Mustang fan, I plan on using a New Edge Mustang for my LSx swap.

More to come soon.

Thanks.

Well, I ended up getting a 2004 or 2005 6.0L, with issues. A guy I work with knows this guy with a trans shop, he pulled it out, and was going to scrap it. My friend told me about, which I didn't think it was a 6L, I thought at least it will be a ls of some sort. The problem was, a valve spring broke and dropped the valve down low, so Mr. Piston could wack it a couple times. I had to replace the valve guide, and valve. But on the other side some had tried drilling out a broken off exhaust bolt, they didn't do a very good job. I had to drill the bolt out and plug it.

I modified a truck water pump to have the water neck face forward. I also built a low alternator mount, which I'm going to change.
And as right now I'm pulling all the pistons, cause of carbon build up. All but 2 had rings stuck.

I've been working on this for about a year, on and off. In the last couple of months I have made the most progress moving forward.
I bought an LS1 intake, had to a pair Summit Racing Fuel Rails, the stock LS1's are freaking high. I just bought a wiring harness/pcm, and a 220/228 .575/.575 cam, and a hood for a car I don't have yet.LOL.

I do have a sum what complete drive train, but all of it needs work or modified. Take the trans, for now I will be running a T5, but the one I have, needs the main shaft repaired, atleast 2nd gear, blocker rings, and new bearings. The 8.8 I have is out of a fox body, which I will have to convert to 5 lug with disc, but I can use the V6 7.5 for parts I need.

Had my work sheet metal vendor make some of these up for me, 3/8" thick Stainless Steel. Also, I finally got all of the pistons cleaned, and reinstalled.

Not much to really update, but I did buy a 4x4 4l60e, and transfercase for cheap, OD in out. Not sure what to do about a trans, really want a manual, but man anything decent is freaking high. Oh, and now I'm out of money, yea!!!

I did get the block painted up half way decent. How bad is the 09354896 PCM?
I just took it with harness, didn't know about this one.

Thanks.

Been working on converting some old equal length shorties to LS flanges. Had to make my own expanding tool after the HF one broke. Not sure if they will work, but I have always liked these headers, and after trying to sell them with no luck, I'd thought I would put them to good use.

Yes, for the old 5L, in a fox body, only had to jack one tube over, other then that they fell in.

I love it man, that's awesome. Equal length 5 OH headers were the bee's knee's back in the day. Had a set on my 91 fox with an offroad H pipe and flowmaster cat back. It was the best sounding car I have ever owned.

You're making some progress. Now you need to find a v6 car with a blown motor and dents for dirt cheap.

It's moving some, need to find a BBC blow proof bell housing next, lifters, and springs, oil pan, trans, car, one thing at a time.

Thanks.

Nope, not yet, I have a lead on a 90 coupe, that looks like yours, it's a 4cylinder, can't decide on that or a new edge. Money is the main deal breaker right now, and mostly of the time it is.
Working on putting the heads back together, and some what started on the wiring harness.
