Default 2" Hedman Husler in 64 Chevelle??

As the post indicates, anyone running 2" Hedman Husler's in a 64 Chevelle? I have just about completed my 408 build and need to purchase headers. I was originally going with the Speed Engineering 1 7/8" (much better price) but looking at a ton of dynos I'm expecting a torque peak of 4800-5000 rpm. Using the equation from John Baechtel engine math book and assuming 18ga material, I come up with almost exactly 2" primaries. I'll be running the Mast pan with either set back or original location mounts. Thoughts? Experience?

How much power are you planning on making? I see no problem at all with 1 7/8" headers on a 500-600 horse motor. Yes 2" might gain you 5hp, but it sure as hell isn't worth the price difference to me.

408, LS3 heads and intake, 11.3 CR with decent cam so yes, somewhere in that 500-600 range. I was sold on 1 7/8 until I started thinking...... I've spent so much money thus far I would hate to skimp here at the end. But I'm running out and still need to do interior.

FYI I read your build about 20 times.

Cool man, Glad it's helpful. Yours sounds like it will hail ***. Do you have a build thread? I love the early Chevelles.

I'm afraid to start a build thread because it is taking so damn long. Most of my parts are out of warranty by now. It's coming together much quicker now. I'll get something put together with some pictures soon.

I don't see the need for 2" headers. I think the 1 7/8" will work out just fine power wise.

I went with the speed engineering 1 7/8 and they fit great. I was very surprised. I am not worried about the difference of power at that point as I am not all out racing it. The cost was what got me there, and then was very happy with the fitment. I have a 416 with 500 at the wheels. I am using dirty dingo adjustable mounts, energy suspension wide mounts and an AutoKraft pan. I have just a hair on the a arm clearance on the driver side and plenty of room on the starter and frame on the passenger side.

I don't think you will be shorting yourself on power with 1-7/8" headers. It would be about right for your combo.

Thanks for all of the replies. My Speed-Engineering 1.875 headers showed up today. They look great so far. I also purchased their swap plates but still have to get motor mounts. I went with the Mast pan. Hopefully I can get it stabbed in about 2 or 3 weeks. Still need to get my brake lines run and the e-brake connected so I can roll it out of the garage far enough to get my hoist in front as my driveway is pretty steep.
