Default PCM recommendations

When I bought my 99 Corvette ls1 engine I did not get any of the harness or PCM. To put this engine in my Chevelle what should I be looking for to handle the electrical and ignition chores that will be pretty much plug and play?

Other than something like Fitech, nothing is going to be plug and play.

Ok, understood. So would a stock 99 PCM and harness be the best starting place, and then have the harness modified or are there other factory setups that would work just as well, understanding the the PCM will have to be tuned to my setup. If I go with a auto transmission, 4l60 etc. does it have its own pcm or would it run off the main engine pcm?

I just need to start sourcing parts and need to know what I need to be looking for.

LT1swap.com has lots of great info. You might want to start there and read up on how the 98 Vette interfaces. They talk about the 98 Vette PCM here: http://lt1swap.com/98-02_ls1.htm

If you can modify you own then a stock corvette harness would be your cheapest route. If you need to have it modified then you might be better off just buying a pre made harness from a vendor since you do not yet have the original harness.

He has a 99.

Almost any factory PCM will work. Even the truck ones. If you want a wiring harness that drops right in, another vette harness is your best bet, although a truck harness CAN be made to work with enough effort.

I'd caution you a bit. The vettes are DBW, so a DBC ECM wouldn't work without additional modifications.

These guys can help. https://www.psiconversion.com/

They supplied me with a custom harness, O2 sensors, throttle pedal, MAF sensor and an '08 Corvette ECU with the rear O2's turned off, evap purge turned off and VATS turned off. Hooked up to my crate LS3 per their detailed instructions -- fired and ran perfectly from the first turn of the key.

Did you get the TAC module and the pedal for the DBW? Because if you didn't, it may be cheaper to just get a cable throttle body since the Vett TAC modules are expensive. Then, if you change to cable TB, you could just get a 99-02 Camaro harness and mod that to work in your car. This would probably be the cheapest route if you don't want to buy an aftermarket harness.

Nope, this is all I got, I had considered changing to a cable throttle body but didn’t know if I would just be opening another can of worms.

Well you have options then. Switching to DBC wouldn't be difficult at all since you dont have a PCM or wiring harness. You could get a throttle body from a 99-02 truck for less than $50 at the junk yard and the PCM and harness too. You'd need to change the fuel injector plugs as they're different, then have the truck PCM tuned to your engine. Or you can get a corvette TAC which I'm told are like $200 used, and go that route. You would need a corvette harness, but you could modify a truck one to work, it'll just be more work.

I don't know your budget but Holley has some nice systems that while being more expensive they are also easy to setup and tune. You also have the option of buying one of their LCD screens to connect to it or use a windows based tablet that you can tune/log and monitor everything from one screen. I have the Dominator EFI, It supports drive by wire and will also control the 4l60e/4l80e transmissions.

I got a 2000 Corvette LS1 with harness, but I didn't get the pedal or TAC module. When I found that a TAC module is $450 on eBay I decided to go DBC. I got a 2000 Camaro throttle body (and sold the Vette one). I repinned the Corvette harness to match the Camaro diagrams, so it works with the Camaro throttle body and also with the standard non-Vette 4L60E. My plan is to have the PCM flashed to be a 2000 Camaro, which I think will give the PCM all of the DBC functionality. Since you don't have a harness at all, you could get a stock Camaro harness and thin it down, or buy an aftermarket DBC harness which should be pretty much plug-n-play.

I've got the PCM, harness, TAC module, pedal and throttle body. Harness is setup for stand alone already. I'll program in your tire size and gear ratio. $750 shipped. PM me if you want it.

A junkyard truck DBC throttle body, PCM, and repinned wiring harness would be the way to go on a budget. People have been doing that for ages. The LT1swap website is a godsend for info.

the amount of hassle repinning ,refreshing, tuning etc.....you should just buy the Holley hp set up.....the harness is super easy .Every thing is labeled . a little reading and self tuning you will be up in running in no time.....if I can tune my turbo ls car anyone can tune a NA engine with Holley

That is an option. I’ve dropped a couple $grand with Holley in the last month and I still don’t have motor mounts or exhaust. I may end up with a 1967 “Holley” unstead of a 67 Chevelle.

The holley stuff is nice, we are building a 64 chevelle right now and with Holley dominator, touch screen, holley headers and exhaust. If you need anything else from holley we are a dealer and can beat most prices.

I’ll keep you guys in mind. So far I have bought Holley new mid mount FEAD and their oil pan. Pulled the trigger while their 20% off Christmas sale was running. I still need motor mounts and exhaust for sure along with other stuff I haven’t decided on as yet.
