Default What is this LS2 Bracket?

LS2 from a 2006 GTO.

This bracket is adjacent to the #7 injector (right rear of intake manifold when viewed from the front of the engine). It's retained by two intake manifold bolts.

Does this have something to do with the beauty/coil covers? I'm not using coil covers and this bracket is interfering with how I want to route some hoses.

TIA.

Default LS2 bracket

Tipsy, I think it was used to hold part of the harness, I took it off of my engine with no ill effects.

Truck engines and LS1's have a similar bracket behind the fuel rail and it's definitely not for holding any wires. I was always under the impression that its some kind of device to keep the fuel rail from shearing off in an accident, but they're always only on one side, so not sure that's the real purpose.

Funny I seen someone ask a similar question a few days ago elsewhere, and the response was along the same lines, that it was to do with safety in the event of a crash.

They showed a picture and their engine definitely had them on both sides though

Both rails are the same distance from the firewall, so one would think both would need protection IF it is indeed needed...

I asked the same thing back in about 2013...pretty much the same answer.

There is most definitely a similar bracket on the opposite side.

As someone else wrote, you learn something new every day.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

No, it's definitely to protect the fuel rail in a crash. Also its not an eye as it's a solid plate with a gusset welded to it.

Oh OK, I couldn't tell as the pic was too small to really tell, but I thought that's what it looked like. Thank you for straightening me out on that! lol

This is what I believe also...here's a better picture of one...keep in mind, this one is installed backwards on the head.

No, it mounts solidly to the rear of the left head.

Phew - I feel safer. My LS3 has at least one of those -- I remember thinking - what the heck is that danged deal?
