Figured what better way to document a build than with a build thread.

Back story:

The car is a '55 Kaiser-****** we pulled out of a field in Huntsville, Texas with the intent of doing a nut-and-bolt restoration. After realizing the body tub was shot and that we would be replacing it, we decided to ditch the 4x4 and swap a 5.3 into it.. then after a few too many beers, someone pulled the trigger on a 76mm.. so here we are..

Ford 8.8 cut down 10" on either side.

 

Also forgot to add, I managed to get the chassis blasted today. Gonna try to knock out some fab work this week, then it goes back for some powder.

 

Cool project. What media did you use on that frame?

 

We used a finer steel shot. Warped the rear bumper a hair as it is relatively thin, but we weren't really concerned since both front and rear bumpers are being replaced.

 

Nice, I figured as much when i saw the finish. Knew it wasn't a grit but rather a round particle...smart move!

 

To be completely honest, it was dumb luck on my part. I have a good friend who works for an industrial coatings company and he made me an offer I just couldn't resist to blast the chassis. Steel shot just happened to be the only media they used, but I'm quite happy with the results.

 

Had some free time this evening to unpack the rest of the panels and start fitting them up.

 

Everytime I see guys racing these, I think they are NUTS! Very cool project, just have to be crazy to drive one IMO! Short *** wheel base, nothing but a helmet, and maybe a cage between you and the ground, but hey, I also stopped riding street bikes! LOL Can't wait to see the progress!

 

Id be lying through my teeth if I said I wasn't scared! This whole build is somewhat based off circumstance, and having already purchased the Jeep some while ago. That being said, it will be getting all the proper safety equipment.

 

 

Got around to finishing the chute mount, welding up the front horns, and removing the factory engine mounts. Tomorrow shes getting some powder!

 

Finally got the chassis back from powder coat and in our home shop. Doggo approves!

 

How much did the new tub cost? If I only knew what I know now, my grandfather had a 41 ****** jeep, never thought about doing this to one, till it was to late.

We scored ours for 3100 shipped on ebay via MD Juan in the Philippines. From my research, 90% (if not all) reproduction bodies are coming from the Philippines nowadays, but MD Juan seems to be the most reputable company.

I meant to add that the 3100 was for all new sheet metal; tub, fenders, hood, grill, etc.

 

Finished welding up the end pieces on the 8.8 and managed to start mocking up the suspension. Still waiting on the ladder bars and axle floater, but once those arrive Ill try to get the engine/trans in so I can work on my pinion angle.

 

Where do the "*****" bars go?

Now that to me is funny ****! First thing you do is mount the chute! LOL No body, no motor, but its got a chute (mount at least)!

Don't take that seriously, well, I mean, you did do it in that order, but I am just busting your *****.

I do hope to see those 2 ****** down at LS Fest again this year!
