Default ls6/4l60e swap

I'm swapping a stock LS6 that was pulled from an 03 vette and putting her into my 66 nova sedan. The motor will stay in its stock format and not have any upgrades. I know for a fact the 4l60e transmission will fit without any modifications to the transmission tunnel. Will this transmission in its stock format hold up fine or do I need to buy one thats slightly built? Car will never see a track just used as a DD/Sleeper etc. Secondly what stall speed should I go with if the motor is stock?

The 4l60e's aren't the strongest, but they came from the factory behind the LS6 in the vettes as well and camaros and the heavier pickup trucks. You will be fine unless your tearing around the neighborhood daily. I would make sure the year of the trans matches up with the motor so your electrical connections all fit together.

What computer are you running? The 4L60E needs to be electronically controlled and since the LS6 was never mated with an auto, it doesn't have a way to control the trans.

The LS6 WAS mated with autotrannies in the Vette as stated in post #2

I thought the LS6 only came in a Zo6 and were T-56-only. But doesn't really matter for this question.

The 4L65e (very similar to the 4L60e) was used behind the 400 hp LS2 engine and both have been used behind modified LS motors. Do some reading and research in the auto trans forum before you decide. I am planning on a 4L80e for my swap, even though my tunnel may have to be massaged.

Regarding the converter, I recommend calling one of the sponsors who sells these like FTI, Circle D, etc. Everyone has a slightly different definition of a DD/sleeper. I would go with at least a 3600 converter or higher. I personally would go with a 4,000 rpm converter for that combination. The LS6 power really kicks in above 4,000 - 4,500 rpm. I have a 4k FTI hard hit converter in my stock LS1 Camaro and it drives just fine around town. Whatever you do don't cheap out on the converter.

And that's incorrect. The LS6 was only in the Z06 (Manual only) and the CTS-V (Manual only) Any Corvette with an auto was not a Z06 and therefore not equipped with an LS6. Hence, my question about which ECU he's using.

No worries. Hope I didn't come off sounding like an ***.

Back to the OP, if you have a Z06 ECU, an aftermarket EFI or carb, Holley/MSD and maybe others make a controller that allows you to set it up.

Keep in mind the 2003 LS6 is still a 24 reluctor engine. Same as a LS1. You need the "typical" 4L60E kind of like out of a 1998-2002 Camaro. You will need a tune no matter what.
