Default LS swaps in NY

Good afternoon all, does anyone have any experience with LS swapping a 1996-or newer, OBDII complaint, non-GM vehicle? If so, how are you fairing with NYS inspections? Thank you.

Because if you’re a real car nut, you do what needs to be done to continue following your passions. NY treats the car as some type of curse and the cops treat people who modify cars as criminals, just like CA does. It’s only 2nd to CA as the worst state to be a car enthusiast.

Get out while you still can, OP.

Oh and I’m well aware they’re happy I’m gone - but the feeling is mutual. They can kiss my a$$.

In upstate NY where I am, emissions check is a visual no sniffer. NY state law all 1996 and newer get OBD2 plugged in, communication to Albany. The VIN and registration are linked together. If there is a trouble code, you likely won’t pass. With newer cars it is not as simple as disconnecting/reconnecting battery to keep trouble code off. Some sensors can be made “always good” when inspection center plugs in , like rear o2, fuel evap, EGR etc. This is done when your PCM is tuned/programmed.
Where in Ny are you? Our laws are WAY EASIER than Cali (at least upstate). We don’t having rolling vehicle checks like DWI checkpoints.
What are you looking to swap?

No issue in NYS getting both of my catless LS swaps to pass - HPTuners is a beautiful thing

What are you looking to swap?
I’m downstate, on Long Island. I am 95% done with a LS376 swap into a 1999 Porsche 996 and was not aware of the new Opus program. I have retrofit all the original emissions equipment to the new motor, but it’s not reflective on the OBDII montiors. Ultimately, I’m unsure if Opus is comprehensive enough to realize a VIN change, or flipping all the DTCs “No error reported” on the new GM ECU.

A co-worker removed his CATs on 2008 GT500 and had OBDII rear O2 monitors shut off. He had an issue one year at inspection. They were seeing the O2s shut off after his PCM re-tune and Im sure being a large Ford garage they visually saw the CATs gone. I dont believe he goes to that shop anymore.
Do you have the tune done? Sounds like a great swap! Having all the emissions stuff helps. I'm leaving NY in ~7 years...definitely cannot afford Cali so an EROD is not in the plans! Most likely southeast US.

On Long Island, do you have a sniffer?
