Default 79 Capri/Mustang aka PsychoBilly

Started this project back in Nov of last year. I have owned around 20 Foxes through the years but took a break when my second son was born and did the Jeep thing for a while. I got the bug when we started my oldest sons build (03 Mustang) so I picked up this 79 Capri. Never had a Capri but always wanted one and this one was priced right and didn't have much rust. I have been lurking here for a while and reading and learning on the LS platform.

Plans call for a 6.0 with single 76mm Turbo backed up by a TH-400. Not looking to set the world on fire just a fun street car that I will play around with at the local tracks from time to time and even hit up the weekly cruise-ins. I will try to keep it updated as the project evolves.

Here is how it started out when I picked it up.

Started blowing it apart and ran across the rusted/mangled lower radiator support, quick call to Team Z for a tubular replacement and some cutting and welding took care of that

After months of looking for a descent Capri bumper I ran across a deal on a 82 Gt and couldn't pass it up. Got the pieces mocked up to the Capri fenders to check the fit. A little rough around the edges but I can make it work.

At this point is where I decided to swap in the LS instead of the Windsor. After looking at local prices for just a viable core to build the Windsor I decided that the LS swap was the way for me to go. More availability locally plus I get to learn a new engine platform.

The Capri tail lights were shot so I swapped in a set of 86 GT tail lights. Always preferred these over the later years.

Swapped the fox length Moser axles in the housing and swapped the caliper brackets to the opposite sides to make the rear calipers work with the fox axles.

The paint stripping process... 4 coats of rattle can paint removed with acetone. Loving the original patina white under all that redneck plastidip aka primer lol

Had a minor setback during the ASP install... If you are running this rod check yours. Only had surface weld, no penetration. This happened with hand cycling a dry master cylinder
