Unhappy Got a weird one here.

Ok, I’ll start with the back story. I swapped a 5.3,4l60 from a 2000 Silverado, into a 69 Impala convertible. I used as much of the truck harness as possible. Column, lights, everything but, airbags, abs, and Hvac. This has been a long project, done on a minimum budget. Now fast forward everything is in and working, but I was getting an intermittent cam sensor code. So I replaced the sensor, and it seemed good, but nope. I found a small crack in the connector, so I replaced it. After replacing the cam pigtail, now it won’t start unless I unplug the cam sensor. And when the cam sensor is plugged in, I get a crank sensor code.
i can unplug the cam sensor, and it will run, just a little hard starting, and a cel. I’ve double checked to make sure the wires on the new pigtail are in the correct hole.... any help and ideas would be great. TIA

I would suspect a wire shorting to ground somewhere in the cam sensor line.

Sounds like a wiring fault. Double check that your pinout is correct and then verify conductors are good with no shorts. If you've got a volt meter or multimeter then unplug the connector and check the red for your 12 volt igntiion feed voltage with key on. Once that's verified then check the two signal wires aren't open or shorted to ground with an ohm meter.

If I remember, I thought one was power one ground one signal? 3 wires at the cam sensor?

If it's a 3 wire sensor, maybe 2 of the wires are flipped? I seem to remember reading this was a common thing. But maybe it was a different sensor?

Two of the wires on the cam sensor are swapped. Either they were crimped in the wrong place or the connector was assembled wrong before you got it.

Thanks all for the help. Looks like one is grounding out. Will see if I can trace it this weekend.

Ok, warmed the shop up this morning, and doing some checking... I have 12v on the red, ground on the pink with black, and nothing on the brown with white. It’s sensor unplugged, key on engine off.. checking the pin outs, that looks correct? Any suggestions?..

Wow! After spending almost 10hours checking wires and connections,I re-replaced the cam sensor and that seems to have fixed it... once I get the interior back into the car and can drive I will keep you all updated..thanks again to some of the best help out there!
