As often happens, new products become available in the middle of a build and a decision has to be made whether to change direction. Summit Racing released a new stainless turbo manifold last week, and I felt that it was worth using it.

Just received the Summit manifold this morning. Some observations:

1. It is divided between the passenger and the driver's side banks, however, as noted before, this does not follow the LS firing order. I don't know what this means in practical terms.
2. The casting, machine work, and welding are excellent.
3. The welded WG flanges fit my TurboSmart 45mm wastegate perfectly.
4. A 4 inch downpipes looks to be a very tight fit against the waste gate. The TurboSmart waste gates are water cooled and I think this would be a smart feature to use in this installation.
5. It would be nice if the inlet side v-band and mating flange was included with the manifold.

I will mock this up on the engine and post more pictures.

I think once they work out any fitment bugs, this piece is going to make for some very clean turbo installs!

More pictures...

Observations:

1. The inlet flange is definitely not in the same location as the Holley manifold. If you look carefully and imagine where the firewall might be, the Summit manifold has a lot less space for a downpipe. This can probably be addressed by cutting off the inlet flange and positioning it in a similar location to the Holley manifold.

2. Tall valve covers are a no-go. In fact, even stock valve covers might cause the #2 coil to be cooked.

3. Accel ceramic 45 degree plug wires are a tight fit, and #6 cylinder doesn't fit at all.

These are just observations and by no means a judgement. Your mileage may vary...

Andrew,
Have you decided on which log you’re gonna run yet? And why?

thanks,

Default Oil drain fittings?

You think the 90 degree drain fittings will work with the A-Body frame? I'm using the same pan and drain fittings for my 1970 Cutlass build.

I hope so! Engine is still not in the car, so I can't say for sure.

Me too. I will be dropping mine back in today or tomorrow. I will report back with my findings. Hopefully I don't have to get a new timing cover with drain fittings from ICT Billet.

By the looks of the fitment, personally I'd be using the holley log and I don't think it's even close as a decision.

If you're using the Holley manifold, the ICT billet cover isn't going to work.

I'm using a TBSS intake manifold, Holley mid-mount accessory drive, and some stainless log type exhaust manifolds. I'm still not sure how the fitment will be. Hopefully it will fit.

Sadly the 90 degree fittings didn't fit for the oil drains. I'm going to try the ICT billet drain cover.

Being at LS Fest last weekend got me motivated again to work on the GTO. The fact that it is a lot cooler is helping as well. I needed to get everything ready to drop the engine and trans in the car, because until that happens, anything to do with mocking up the hot side of the turbo is just guessing.

As some of you might recall, I only replaced the passenger side of the front suspension, which also meant that I did not replace the driver's side engine frame stand.

Yesterday I decided to tackle that project. First order of business was to assemble this awesome rolling chair from Vyper. They are super well made, right here in the US. Highly recommended.

Here is what was going on after I took the wheel off.

I removed all of the front suspension...

Then I was able to install the Holley LS swap frame stands.

Then back together it went with the new Ridetech suspension and coilovers.

I didn't have time to get the rotor back on, but at least everything is cleaned up and the car rolls again.

I will take small steps forward wherever I can. Yesterday I installed the new rotor and pads on the driver's side, so the front suspension is finally wrapped up with the switch over to RideTech control arms and coilovers.

I also enlarged the existing hole for the harness pass through to use the TE Connectivity heat shrink boot.

That is the retaining nut that will go on the inside of the firewall. You can also see marks on the firewall where I plan to install the little closeout panel with the bulk head connectors for the injectors and coils. That opening needs to be cut out carefully because I don't have a lot of room for error.
