3/4" aluminum plate conducts/dissipates heat; pretty much the opposite of a thermal insulator. fwiw

What measurements do you need? I have one sitting in the corner of my garage.

On a side note, where is the A/C condenser in a Tesla? Would think it would need good air flow, but with the cars having no real grille, just got me wondering.

In front of the wheels and vent to the Wheelwell.

Awesome! Well overall width length and height including the transmission would be great.

True,, it coeducts heat well. Which should avoid a hot spot on the battery pack and make the cooling system more effective. In addition I think there is a thin layer of titanium at the bottom.

So does anyone have any information on ceramic coating the exhaust to minimize underhood heat? Or exhaust heat period? I think we've exhausted the venting issue. Pun intended.

What exactly do you want to know about ceramic coatings? I’ve had more headers and exhaust components ceramic coated than I care to remember, and it works well. Under hood and/or underbody temps will fall significantly with the correct coating.

I'm getting the transmission in a couple of days. When I get it I am going to bolt it to the engine so I can try and start it. Then I will get you some measurements.

Height and width will depend on the oil pan and manifolds. No different than another other LS. There are dimensioned drawings all over google images.
Length, the LS4 block is slightly longer than others, the crank is shorter on both ends... and these details are out there on this forum, *any* search of LS4 dimensions pulls this info up.

I'd suggest reading through the whole LS4 forum, and check with the guy who put one in a Fiero, he's rather knowledgeable.

I've been looking. No actual dimensions of transmission. Or of actually LS4 with accessories. But I've interpolated that it should be around 30 inches wide which should fit. Height might be an issue, but I think there are several ways to deal with that. Im pretty confident it will fit at this point.

Awesome! What type of ceramic coating is best? How much does it decrease temps? How much and where to go? Anything you got is appreciated.

That would be great! I've estimated it at around 30 inches with accessories. I have around 32 inches between shock towers on Tesla.

How about getting cruise to work on the LS4? Since the primary use for this will be as a range extender, I will want to be able to lock the throttle at different settings and have it unlock upon braking. The EV system can handle the finer points of maintaining speed. I just need very basic system at the least. Keep in mind I won't have access to wheel speed data. Let me know your thoughts.

I got my transmission the other day, but didn't have time to bolt them together this weekend, so I haven't been able to get you the measurements, but I will get them when I get a chance to bolt the two together. As for the cruise control, I have been looking into that myself, and without going to an aftermarket set up, I'm pretty sure you will need the BCM to make it work. That's what I'm planning on doing. Not sure why you say you won't have any wheel speed data? If you are planning on using the 4t65e transmission that comes on these engines, it will have a speed sensor in it, and it will be needed to make it shift.

I assumed the wheel speed sensors were at the wheels. So a body control module? Wouldn't cruise be controlled by the engine control module?
While a complete measurement would be great, a measurement of the transmission from the bell housing to the end of the transmission would be good.

Wheel speed sensors are usually for ABS, not engine/transmission functions.

The cruise control on newer GenIV engines is run through the BCM, unlike the older GenIII stuff, so its harder to add.

I measured the engine,, and its hard to get a real accurate measurement, but from the part of the throttle body that sticks out, to the outer most part of the power steering pump is about 27 1/2", and the trans from the bellhousing to the outer edge is about 10 5/8". Keep in mind though that the TB does hang over the bellhousibg a bit, about 4.1/2 to 5", so total i would say you're looking at around 33", I will have a better look when I get them actually bolted together.

Man that's gonna be close. I think I have 32 inches max.
I guess that makes sense on the wheel speed sensors. So what are you putting this into?

As far as the aerodynamics go, you can use the old yarn trick. Cut up a multitude of yarn strings about 3-4" long or so and tape them all over the body that you're looking at. You'll be able to 'see' the air flow to help you decide where to vent or where not to.

If the yarn is standing straight out, or curling, it's a bad place.

Actually found someone tuft testing a tesla nose.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to plead the 5th on your question so I dont incriminate myself. LOL! I will put up a thread when I get done with it, if it in fact does happen.. I'm kind of in the same boat as you where I'm not sure it will even fit. It will definitely be one of a kind because I'm pretty sure nobody else would want this particular car. 😉
