My buddy had this impreza with bad head gaskets and a 99 2500 sitting for years and i decided to make some use out of them. I also had a t56 sitting in the shop sotime to put that to use also.


2008 impreza been sitting for a while due to bad head gaskets...

Flat boy out


Out with the old trans


Plenty of room for activities

Iron Lq4 pulled out of 99 2500 donor...needs some love



Found a wrx in junkyard and swiped interior

Stained and dirty



Striped down to wash fabric


Reassembled and looking better

Removed old iron heads in favor of some 706 I got for 100$ had them pressure checked and decked


Pac springs to go with the sloppy 2 cam



Polished up a bit with some covers my buddy gave me



New subframe from tssfab.com to hold the ls in the subie. Off to powder coat



Checking clearances for oil pan..options are limited



Goofy shaped pan. Made for ls swapping a 350z



Wiring...never fun



Removing unnecessary circuits and fixing some failed ones



All cleaned up and reworked



Sub frame in



Finally in its new home



Just enough clearance with f body accessories

The t56 I had was from an older fbody with lt. I thought it would mate right up to the lq4 being a long crank...wrong... so I got a conversion kit from Rockland gear including the front plate, input shaft,shims and bell housing


Converting t56 from lt to ls





All ready to go in with remote bleeder to make life easier





Not much clearence for exhaust...gonna have to run it forward



Eww long crank... so i first called mcleod racing asking about clutch and flywheel options for a long crank and a lt t56. They said i would need to convert trans but if i used one of their expensive flywheels i could still use the long crank...well after i got it in i realized that wasn't possible unless I shimmed the block and bell housing 1/2 inch...spacers are expensive not to mention lack of space so out she goes...shoulda swapped cranks when I first had the thing apart

New short crank in

new crank with new bearings fitted..now it's a proper ls series

Upgrading fuel pumpt to an aem340



Ram clutch

Just enough space thanks to me clearancing tool





Just enough room

-an fittings on pump and rack




Modified truck manifolds. Gonna flip them and run forward to deal with steering shaft clearance

V banded

Now that ecm is behind firewall on right side every wire needed to be relengthed..tedious and time consuming



Sized and routed... after some testing ill loom it up in some sort of way

My jdm v8 Spec-C type RA-swapped 02 Wrx was one of my all-time favorite cars.

That does sound like a sweet ride! I had a 02 wrx also..miss that ride. Subarus are my favorite...I got like 8 of em right now haha most with blown engines I'm fixing and selling.

That frame was just under 1k$ with the black Friday sale they had goin on. It came with motor mounts, extra bracing and other peices to help with suspension geometry.

Forgot I started this...


Here is my solution to no space for exhaust to clear steering shaft...this ridiculous y pipe haha... staying true to subaru style with the unequal length.


Im a rookie with the welding and fabbing but got to fit and stay together...so far

Ran it through the frame and met up on the other side


2.5 y to 3

Pulled out to wrap

Looks decent and room to spare

I didnt bother wrapping the other side just heat sheilding on starter and ckp wiring


Snaked around trans back to tunnel and tucked a spintech in there... Didnt have anymore v bands but will add them or band clamps later for serviceability

More wiring... since i moved the ecm to the exact opposite of the factory truck(behind firewall on passenger side) i had to lengthen everything from one bank and shorten the other... literally every wire

All trimmed up

New driveshaft to fit between t56 and little subaru diff

All cleaned up

OK, I'm not seeing something right.
In some pics, the driver manifold exits forward into the crossover which goes past the rear-exiting passenger manifold, then both enter a Y to head rearward.
BUT, in some pics the passenger manifold exits forward. Earlier version?

Ready for test run

Wheels back from powder coat and some tint

New tires for the back from 205 55 16 to 245 50 16


Picked up beefier diff out of a legacy spec B. R180 on the left and r160 on the right


Splines on the new diff are mich bigger and the diff is wider. I got legacy spec b axles with the diff hoping the would have the correct hub side spline but they werent. So i had to make a hybrid axle using the impreza outer cups and bearing races and put them on the other axles

Old tiny r160 diff

New r180 and hybrid axles fit perfect...even used same driveshaft


Suspesion was slammed and rode like a brick with all that weight. The 2008 impreza had the softest springs out of any year ever. And the brakes where feeling the weight also. So i got some adjustable coilovers and wrx 4 pot brakes and its soo mich better

Was having some IAT heatsoak issues with the maf directly behind the radiator so i moved it down into wheel well

Injector duty cycle waay up there over 100% even with the aem 340 pump over running the vette regulator keeping fuel pressure over 70psi all the time

Picked up some 60lb flex injectors and an adjustable regulator to keep all that in check

Yea I was originally gonna run them both forward and y them but it was gonna be tight with inefficient bends so I got another passenger manifold

Thanks. Not sure how I feel about the spintech on there. It sounds so good at idle but not really digging the sound goin down the road especially when getting on it... not sure if it's placement or just the combo of everything. Maybe I should add a resonator or something

If you have the room possibly try a larger Magnaflow or Flowmaster. That Spintech doesn't look like it would do much...
