Default GenV 5.3/10 speed vs LS 5.3/8hp70

I'm slowly gathering parts for a N/A 5.3 V8 swap with 8hp70.

I was dead set on it until I came across a very good deal on a 2023/4 Gen v 5.3 with 4wd 10 speed with complete wiring harness, PCM/TCM, pedal, the only thing that's missing is a shifter.

It's probably 30-40% cheaper than the 5.3/8hp route.

I'm not going to be adding any power ladders, looking for reliability over everything else.

For the transmission Im going to convert it to rwd by swapping the tail housing/output shaft.

Do I need to get the PCM/TCM reprogrammed for rwd and is that even a thing?

Is there any issues with removing vats/using stock PCM/harness on a Gen v engine/trans?

I had stock 2015 1500 with a 6.2 8 speed combo. 6.2 was great. The 8 speed not so much. Never shifted smooth on cold starts. Had hard down shifts when pulling up to a stop light. At least 3 trips to the dealer for "reprogramming" but never solved the issues. Traded it before the warranty was up.
But then my stock 2020 1500 with the 6.2 10 speed combo was sweet. Shifted perfect from day one.

If you want reliability, I’d stick with the 8hp70 (ZF) trans. These have proven to be very reliable. You can’t say this about GMs 8 or 10 speed trannys.

The 8 speed he's talking about isn't the GM 8 speed. Its the globally used 8 speed like in hellcats and various BMWs and such.

Isn’t the GM 10 speed the joint venture tranny GM did with Ford to share the development costs?

Either way, I’d only consider the ZF 8HP70/ or better/ higher

It is, and has proven fairly dependable.

8hp requires throttle cut/blip, can a stock PCM do that with a tune or do I need to go standalone?
Locally there are really good deals on l83s
