Headers for thirdgen
Headers for thirdgen I'm probibly going to be picking up my thirdgen over christmas break. I already have my lq9 waiting to go in. I was wondering what my choices were for headers. I heard hooker shorties work but I was looking for long tubes. What other choices do I have? Would LG's longtubes for corvettes work? Also would a T56 match up to the lq9 and the rest of the thirdgen? Thanks for your help guys.

Hawk's thirdgen parts has made a longtube set for thirdgens. Supposedly , the prototype set has been fitted and sent off for production. These are for an LS1 swap, if these will work , that's the only thing out there that might be available that I know of.

I wouldn't waste money on shorty headers, find you a set of stock exhaust manifold from a 01 or 02 fbody and have them ported. They will flow just as good or better than after market shorty headers.

I talked to Bruce at Hawk's yesterday , no dice on the longtubes yet. There was a fellow who who used Hooker thirdgen longtube , cut off the flange and used an LS1 flange for GMPP, redid the tubes and made that work.

I ran across a thread on thirdgen.org where a fella bought some LS1 header flanges from GM Performance Parts , cut the upper tubes on a pair of Hooker thirdgen headers, moved the tubes to fit the flange and Viola! , LS1 longtubes for a thirdgen!

You would think there is enough demand for one of the companies to step forward and make some conversion longtubes. It looks like Bruce from Hawks will be the one to be doing it, its just a matter of time I think. My car will be done soon and I was planning on just having a guy I know make me a y-pipe to connect my shorties to my catback but with all this talk of longtubes from bruce, I am contemplating holding off.

easiest way to do thw exhaust Hi: I was lookimg ar a third gen camaro for 500 bucks with a good body and no engine or trans. Whats the easiest cheapest way to do the exhaust system. From my research I was told you could use 2001-02 Fbody manifolds and cats and just make a new Y pipe to the cat back setup? What about using 98 corvete center dump manifolds with 2 straight pipes back to the rear axle and a universal dual inlet dual outlet muffler behind the rear like the old 69 camaro's. Has anyone tried this yet? l know the Z06 manifold will not clear the frame but the center dump ones might? The Corvette manifolds only have air fittings that you can just cut off and weld up and then paint or coat them. The exhaust sysyems on these cars can get quite envolved and expensive. Any feed back welcome.
Talked to Bruce earlier this evening, 3rd gen longtubes ARE coming. R&D is expensive and slow, but my car should actually have one of the first "production" sets, and he should have them available for sale by May.
