i'm looking into this swap as well, i'm thinking if i can pull it off for 8k its totally worth it. i'd need at least 8k to get a 350-400 hp sr20 into my car, with a ls1, at least my 240 will be street legal =)

btw, how far does the LS1 rev up to? 6 or 7 k?
No reply on the t56 as far as I know.

A hydraulic cammed LS1 can rev to 7k depending on cam/springs.

well, from what i read, the 240sx rear end is the R200, which is or at least based on a skyline rear end. the chassis itself is also partly based on the skyline chassis. This is why both the chassis and rear end can handle quite a bit of power with minimal modification. The only problem you may have with the stock rear end is the differential. You'll most likely have problems driving the car with an open diff, which most 240sx have. And the factory viscous limited slip that came on the rest of the cars will most likely fry from the torque/power. Either way i think you probably have to look into an aftermarket differential for that R200 rear end.

lime creek motorsport's twin turbo lt1 240sx (running in the 10s) broke its stock R200 after a while but switched to a RS200 from a skyline gt-r.

the main concerns i have with this swap are:

1) heat, apparently the 240sx front end isn't designed to provide cooling for a V8 (duh), so heating for both the engine bay and passenger compartment (since you won't be getting ac with the swap) may be a major concern.

2) if power steering still fits/works with the V8, lime creek took out power steering because its mainly a drag car. Apparently the car doesn't necessarily handle worse with the V8 since the weight gain is minimal, but the lack of power steering will really hamper turning and “handling”. My car is a drift car, so turning and rapid steering is pretty crucial for me. In case anyone is wondering why i'm not going with a SR. Drifting puts quite a load on the engine, i'm redlining and bouncing off the rev limiter quite often, a sr with 20 lbs of boost probably will produce the same horsepower as a ls6, but with that much boost and abuse its not very reliable. Plus a V8 has much more torque, something that will benefit a drift car a great deal. Oh, yes, and I can legally drive home from the track.

3) exhaust/header/tranny/shifter fitment. i'm guessing there will be issues fitting basic bolt on exhaust and headers so that probably requires modification and trips to muffler shops. Also i fear that the t56 won't line up too well with the opening in the 240's console, resulting in an altered shifter placement.

I’m trying to get these concerns answered and figured out before I make any plans. I’m going into the Army and boot camp in June so this probably will have to wait till at least November. I have till then to figure things out and see if it is really feasible.

the kits from that email are for a s13, the early model 240sx. most of the guys who are looking to do this swap on here have s14s, the late model 240sx.

although they are very very similar (same chasis and engine) i'm sure there are enough differences to skew over this type of hybrid swap.

Rhys Millen uses a Kaaz LSD in the back of his GTO and you can get them for the 240 as well. (Actually they only make them for foreign cars and not any american cars as of yet. The reason Rhys is using one in an american car is because I think the rear end is similar to a Holden and Kaaz's makes one for Holdens so that's how it works out for him) They aren't cheap by any means but in talking with Rhys (hell of a nice guy btw) when he was at the Drift Atlanta event he said that the Kaaz is the only one he'd recommend and has held up nicely for him. Also saw a TV special that talked about how some people get 100K for miles out of them with regular oil changes but that's just what saw, no personal expeience with it.

More info can be found at www.kaazusa.com Be ready though, prices range from like $900 to $1200 range for them!

HTH!

here's my issue:

-AC can't be retained?

-what about power steering?

i live in texas and if i can't keep my beloved AC i'm afraid the LS1 project won't work out.

Had mine to the limiter at 7200 a few times, no problems
TSP 231/237 .598/.595
PRS dual springs good to .660
YT 1.7s

Normally shift at about 6700-6800...

Those are my concerns too. Ive been following this thread and decided to register. I live in Cali, so my swap options are very limited. (stupid CARB!) I have been considering either an ls1 swap or a vg30de from a 300zx (Yes, non-turbo) Keep the info coming. Im leaning more towards vg now that AC might not be available

Where in OK do you live? I'm in Tulsa. Was wondering if I could check the car out in person if you aren't too far.

Take care,
Rob

we just picked up an extra ls1 swap w/a/c, if the compressor will fit in the engine bay you can probably use your s13 condensor just find some a/c lines that will fit and make the plumbing all work together.
