Default Fuel return info

I just thought that I would throw a little info out there that might help some people. I was going to use the vent line that goes to the charcoal canister as my return since it is larger than the stock return on my car. I got it all hooked up and thought I would check for leaks. It turns out that the vent line on my 81 camaro has a check valve in the tank that does NOT let air back into the tank. So my pressure was at 90 psi no matter how the regulator was adjusted. I just had to switch a hose around in the back no big deal, but I thought I would save some one the time of making my mistake.

Are you still using the vent line to the canister? Is it necessary on the LS1? I'm also using the 1/4" return line on my '74. Is there a problem running the 1/4 " line?

I removed the canister. I didnt want to run it, Speartech is going to program for not having one. I think that the 1/4" line would be big enough untill you run a really big fuel pump. I just figured that a larger one would work beter and the vent line was the easiest line to hook up where I have my fuel pressure regulator.

Default We've been over this before, but...

I was considering eliminating the EVAP system as well...but, is there any other downfall to this, other than the smell of fuel vapors from the fuel tank breathing? Thanks, Gar

If you eliminate the evap system you will need to provide a vent for the fuel tank, probably with a "roll-over" valve in it. It should be located somewhere so the fumes won't be pulled into the cars' interior.....my old hot rod is vented in the left fenderwell just above the fuel fill hose. If you don't vent it correctly you will have supply problems.

Oscar, can I vent the tank at the charcoal canister or do I have to vent it at the tank?( if I take out the EVAP system- HP tuner).

If you don't vent the tank, the volume of fuel used by the engine will not be replaced by an equal volume of air. The pressure in the tank will then drop and the pump will have to work against this pressure differential. Given a powerful enough pump I could see you collapsing a tank this way.

the easiest solution to tank venting is to replace your "sealed", emissions friendly gas cap, with a older nonemissions style "vented" cap..

or you could drill the baffle thru on a cap, since they're designed the same, the vented ones just have holes in the baffle......
