Default Please tell me if I am crazy

Ok I have some pretty crazy ideas and I know it will probaly make alot of people mad but hey it sure will be fun.

I have a 2003 Cobra it is a great car but sucks gas and well the mod motor is just not an ls1. I love the way the car looks and everything. Now what I was thinking was pull the mod motor and put an ls1 and do a single turbo setup on it.

Now keep in mind I still have the mod motor and I ran into a cheap 4 cyl notch that I could put that in and still have some fun with it and make use of the mod motor.

I know it is possible I would do this once I finish up my ls1/rx7 but how pissed do you think the ford guys would get ?

do it. that cobra will be faster with all that weight gone. i think a mildly built motor enough to take 550-600 max rwhp would be decent

You would also benefit from better handling because of the weight reduction. I say go for it!

You're crazy man, but whatever makes you happy. Just think if GM would sell LS1s to all the other carmakers No one would have to go through all this work. What would the world be like then? I bet world peace would break out. HAha

Why not put the ls1 in the notch and leave the cobra alone?

I want to daily drive the cobra I love the looks of it and the way it feels. I am shorter so being in a mustang is alot nicer. I have driven f-bodies and I just dont feel connected to them at all i sit too low and am just too short I guess.

I like the torque the mod motor produces but it's just not daily driver material. If I could I'd sell the 03 but I am too upside down in it since they ended up making so many of them so I am stuck with it.

Hey at least now I will have something totally different than anyone else.

I think you're onto something, with the weight of the Cobra the Mod just doesn't cut it, but would absolutley kill in a Notch. The LS1 should be an option in EVERY Car made! I think it would be great in a 03+ Cobra. You gonna keep the IRS?

You're nuts. Mod the Cobra. What you need to do is the !Eaton mod and add the Kenne Bell mod.

I don't have a Cobra but there will definitely be an ls1 in my 00 GT within the next couple of months. The only decent mod motor to me would be a 03/04 Cobra motor other than that to me they suck.

Pulling a good 03 motor for a ls1 is foolish imho.

I am a diehard LS1 fan, thats what I have, and what I love to work on.

But i get paid to work on fords all day. The 2003-4 cobra is one of the nicer vehicles out there, simple recipie for a good 2003-4 cobra.

KenneBelle or Whipple blower.
60# injectors
SCT BA2400 Maf
Boost a pump/or dual Focus Pumps.

The Gasmilage mod: ie, going to a stock LS1 6th gear ratio .5:1
http://forums.modulardepot.com/showt...threadid=54209

Between all of these, you will be fine with the cobra.

foolish? yes.
diffrent isnt always good..... but even if its a crazy scheme, its still kinda cool in a insane kind of way.

besides, selling a complete 03 cobra pullout drivetrain would offset the cost of a LS1 drivetrain.....
and you dump some good weight out of the car...

I'd pull the Cobra Motor and put it in an LS1, not the other way around.

On one hand I think its foolish to cut up a perfectly good running car. Then again...

Pull that ford motor, thorw in an ls1 with a blower.... and never look back. You could put the ford motor to good use also.... that would make one hell of a backup generator (now thats crazzy).

Why would the ford guys be mad that you made your car beter?
I would say go for it. I wouldnt worry about "cutting up a good car, I hacked the frame on my 67,000 mile 2nd gen camaro. From what I hear the LS1 will almost bolt right in to your ford anyway.
