LSx to Replace SBC - General Questions Hi All,
I was wondering about the trans bell housing location. If an LSx is replacing an SBC, and I use adapter engine mounts (BTW they are solid mounts), do the LSx mounts move the engine forward, backward, up, down?
What is the relationship in size between an LSx and SBC? Is the SBC shorter?
Any manufacturer reccomendations regarding LSx adapters?

It depends on which brand or type of engine mounts you use. Some of them move the LSX forward, some move them backward.
SBC is longer than the LSX, due to it requiring the distributor behind the intake manifold.

The LSx is about 1 inch shorter front to back and 1 inch wider than an SBC. The LS2 has a water pump that is a little shorter than the LS1. The ls2 water pump can be used on the LS1 but you may need to adjust the pulley to line up with your belt.

It is my understanding that the motor mount adapters from Street and Performance position the bellhousing in the same location as a 1st Gen SBC. I have no first hand experience, so you might want to give them a call to confirm.

Thanks, Pat. I have a clean slate to work with on the pulley and belt setup. No parts have been purchased yet. It would be great to end up with a crate LS7. We'll have to see what the price is... ... ... in August/September timeframe.

I have a set of motor mount adapter plates from www.grannysspeedshop.com that are SUPPOSED to locate within 1/4" fore/aft of the SBC position (they use the standard 3 bolt SBC mounts). I'm putting the engine in a couple weeks, so I'll know then (and post here so we have a for sure answer).

ive had some problems with the plates that use the old 3 bolt mounts.
they are trans dapt brand, but the street and performance, an off brand on ebay and the art morrison plates all look very similar.
