Default what are yall doing for fuel tanks/pumps?

I am on a budget so a $800 street rod tank is out of the question. I have been considering making my own aluminum fuel cell. Materials would be around $200. I have a 99 f-body ls1 fuel pump/sender that I would like to use to keep things simple but I dont know how to graft it into a tank.
Does anyone know the dimensions of a stock f-body tank? Maybe I could just use one of those?
thanks for any ideas

I'd be afraid to use an aluminum fuel cell on a street-driven car. They're more prone to rupture on impact, whereas steel will bend more before opening up.

I used a camaro fuel tank and pump in my elcamino, and it fit good. I used the bottom straps from the camaro donor car too. I cut off the filler neck with a sawzall
(the tank had no fume smell in it, and was dry for months). I have also heard that people will fill the tank with water before any flame or sparks are made around it. It would suck big time to blow your *** up! I split the neck where I cut it, and bent the vent tube that is on the inside of the neck out through the split and welded it back together. My weld sucked. It leaks when I put fuel in it. I am going to try to used jb weld on the weld area, and hope that it will seal up. In hind sight, I would have done a better job of sanding off the galvanizing before spliting the neck. Then I would have had someone use a tig to weld it back closed. I bought some gas hose from NAPA(they sell it by the inch) to connect the filer neck from tank to original one on the camino. Used the original vent tube hose from camino to hook up to the tank vent. I fabricated the upper saddles for the tank to fit into, and they also had slots for the original tank straps to hook into on one side, and welded nuts on the other to bolt in the straps. I have the tank in now, but could take pictures of the bottom of the tank if you are intrested in going with OE stuff. I have heard of pople using external fuel pumps too.

Good luck!
Bruce

I'm going the aluminum fuel cell route. If I get hit hard enough to rupture it in the trunk, the car is junk anyway, and I'd probably rather die in the explosion than to sit there and watch my car burn up anyway.

its going right behind the axle there. I would like to try and avoid going with an external pump.

I wanted to go aluminum because I wouldnt have to worry about rust inside the tank and it would be fairly lightweight compared to steel. Steel would be cheaper and easier to weld but is there a way to seal the inside so I wouldnt ever have to worry about it?

Its located in front of a 2x4 3/16" wall piece of box tube so I dont think anything will break through that...and if it does well like the other guy said, I think i would prefer just to die in an explosion lol

If you need an aluminum cell, I will hook you up with my 20gal. RCI. I'm gonna go a little smaller..15gal. Never used. I'll cut you a good deal if you need it. It has all the goodies..sumped, baffled, etc.

in that case, since the rear is fabricated anyway, id modify the chassis to fit the stock plastic 99+ fuel tank.

I have a 2000 F Body tank, complete with fuel pump if you are interested. 32.5w x 21.5 L x 12 H. I can send a picture of it if you want.
