EDIT: now i understand your responce about the valve covers.

do you have AIM or anything so i can keep in contact besides PM's?

you will need new mounts but when i made mine they were located in the same location as the 307 ones. as far as your tranny what does the pan look like? that will tell exactly what it is. if it was my car and i needed overdrive i'd go with the 200r4, it'll need some upgrades though(so would the 700). the truck coils will bolt onto the valve covers just fine, although i don't know if they plug into an f-body harness the same, everything on my engine was from an 02 truck.

Have you ever thought about doing the LS motor with a carb? Thats the way I would go. It would be very simple and you could tune it yourself. Other than the motor mount it would almost be a bolt in swap.

Just a thought.

i thought of that, but then it seems pointless. the reasons i would put the LS1 is because that way i could pass smog, get good cold starts, and better reliablility. if i were to buy something older, i would probably just put in a regular smallblock. i have had bad luck with carbs too.

tell me what to look for on the tranny pan. what distinguishes the difference between a 200 and a 700? is one necesarrily better than the other?

Hi Llegos: You live in cali so you are going to have a harder time getting your car smog legal. Check with some of the other guys from cali or the reffere station about what you should do. You have to make it fully Odbii compliant so you have to run 2 cats with 4, O2 sensors. This is where it gets confussing. Federal law states on a car witch was originally equiped with a single cat you can't put dual cats on it. You can't move the the cat from the original loaction on the car. If you run a y pipe with single cat back to the cat back you would not run rear O2 sensors. The way I interpret this, is this setup would be 49 state legal and not Carb certified? My suggestion to you would be to get a block and heads from an 04 GTO along with a computer and Vin number from an 04 GTO. The GTO did not have AIR, or EGR. You would also have to get the GTO manifolds and mid section with the cats and adapt it to a custom exhaust system. With the gas tank maybe you could adapt the fuel pump pressure sensor from the GTO to it. You would also have to run the computer controlled Evaporator canister system from the GTO. I think you could adapt the rear sensor to the vent line on the tank and run a line to the purge valve on the manifold. Maybe some of the guys from Cali or John from speartech will chime in and tell you what to do? Good luck

well, i just read some more stuff about some of the dumbass laws around here, and its looking real iffy. i think my best bet is to buy something that doesnt need smog, so i dont have to screw with all this trash. I wonder about swapping a LS1/T56 into an old C-10

If you live in Cali I think if you have a 1975 or older car you are exempt automatically. In NJ were I am 1979 and older cars are exempt from the new rules. Also in NJ 1995 and older cars are exempt from ODBII testing so I could just run the one cat with the Y pipe and pass. Also here it goes by chassis year not engine year. So in your case if I put a 1999 engine in an 84 car I would only need to pass 1984 standards. You could probably run a trex cam in this car in NJ and still pass 1984 smog standards. My suggestion to you is register your car in Neveda. Bye, Good Luck

yea, 75 and older here. i learned a lot more about my whole situation. the engine has to be installed with all the factory smog accesorries, whether it needs them or not. also, there is a lot more work needed on the car than i remember. i think gettin something that i dont need to smog at all and puttin in a straight LS1/T56 will be easier.

Hi all: I saw 2 hurst Olds at the local car show cruise night last night. One silver one with t-tops and ground effects and another black with red trim 15th aniversery edition. I think this one is an 83 or maybe an 82. It was for sale, Oh it would be nice to have the money. Someone do one of these cars they need an LS1, or better yet LS7 crate motor transplant. I also saw a Grand Prix Gt 2 + 2 Richard Petty signed edition car. Not sure if it was an 86 or 87. They look similar to the Monte Carlo Aerocoupe but have a real nice looking Pontiac nose on them. No one has done one of these or an Aerocoupe yet. Just giving you guys some Ideas if you want somthing unigue and different.
