Default "High" Alternator Mount??

I need to locate a alt. mount to move my alternator to a higher location. My steering shaft is in the way . I know the 5.3 trucks have the alt mounted "high" on the drivers side, will that mount fit on a LS1? If not, I'm looking for suggestions

I'm guessing you're using the F-body accessory drive, right?

Both the truck and C5 corvette accessory drives mount the alternator up top. Sadly, none of the 3 accessory drive systems interchange.

If you've got the room in front of the engine (the truck system is about 2" deeper), the truck system would be the cheapest solution, but I'm pretty sure you've got to run the truck intake manifold to clear the drive system (but I'm not 100% sure on that).

If you don't have the room, you have 2 choices. Run the C5 (or C6) vette accessory drive system or come up with some aftermarket high mount alternator bracket. Both are likely to be expensive.

Sorry I don't have better news.

Ran into the same problem with Mark's conversion. Wound up changing the belt system to a Corvette Pully system, which meant a different PS system, alternator, crank pully, and different aftermarket AC bracket . . .

Theres no way to **** that bracket you have to the side? and rotate it up above the steering shaft?
build a bracket that mounts to the lower tab, that you are rotating up, and other side to the block....

just tossing out an idea....
EDIT, nm, it might rotate the idle pulley into the crank pulley.....

There has to be some way to space that bracket out....
get some 1/4" plate, make some brackets to space it out....

How about building one? I fabbed up this one for ZAngel's turbo kit in about an hour or so.

If you don't have the means to fab one, I know Stainless Works sells a pair of plates that can be used to create a high mount bracket. You'd need to add the spacers (use iron water pipe from Home Depot) and bolts, but that's about it.

Yo've saved my pocketbook right there, LOL! What did you make it from about 16 - 18 ga? I'll do a search on Stainless Works and see if I can find those plate #'s.

Here's another option if you want to put it on the driver's side.

I just purchased the alternator and the bracket and power steering pump from a corvette and put 4 3/4 inch round shims to space it out from the block and align with the F body acces. If I ever can find out how load pics I'll post them.

Anyone ever try to mount a smaller alternator on the F body bracket? Maybe the older style 1 wire or 3 wire alternator, the small diamiter one will fit. or maybe a alternator from a six cylinder chevy or buick might work just a thought. As long as it has the same belt width and the amp rating is close to the same might work.

I used some 16ga. scrap I had laying around the garage. No measurements, just "hmm.. lets put this here, and ....."

Give Al Noe at Stainless Works a call, not sure if they advertise the plates anywhere -- but Al will get you hooked up

Thumbs up Scooter70...

Nice alternator bracket design. I take it, the standard F-body P.S. pump is still in the usual place with this bracket? By the way, where does one buy one of those air intake snorkels? What is it off of? Thanks, Gar
