Default Early truck eng. swap

Any of you guys done a early chevy truck swap. Like a 67-72 Chevy 1/2 ton.
I have one that I am doing a frame of to. The frontend, cab and beds sitting on the shop floor body work done, alone with a 1998 chevy truck engine and trans. Bought the 98 truck as a roll-over,stripped it,and plan on using everything in my 70. My main consern is the stock wiring harness.I have it but, I was hoping to find a company or someone to makeup a standalone one. I found one but they want 800.00 for the harness and another 300.00 to rework my computer. I am not looking for a hand out,but that just seem a little high.A set of headers would be cool. As far as the mounts,I would buy a set if reasonable. If you done or doing a early truck swap and can give me some input or info. email me or let me know. Seems like most engine swap done in here are car swaps. THANKS A LOT GUYS !

first off welcome, I believe the 98 motor you are going to use is not a gen 3. These came out in 99 for the trucks. so that being said it will mount up just like your old one provided it was a v8 sbc. as far as headers again it being a gen 1 motor the headers will be cheap.
I did a swap into my 68 P/U it was a 2001 gen 3 5.3 motor it required quite a bit of fab work and I made my own mounts. I bought a harness from Painless and had my computer reprogramed by Nelson Performance (a site sponsor). I was able to move my motor back about 6 inches from stock position but it is really tight.
Anyway verify that this is the vortec headed sbc (gen 1) not the gen 3 (ls1).

Good luck.
Dave

After I bought my Howell EFI harness and computer for my 2001 5.3L swap, I learned that Speartech(?) will rework your OEM harness, which I HAD!!! This will be a lot less than a new standalone harness, and accomplish the same thing. I think there are other companies out there that also rework OEM harnesses to be standalone.

Try wait4meperformance.com.

He advertises a PCM and rework of your harness for a good price.

I've got another vote for Speartech. He's been a ton of help to me, and always had great service.

I have pinouts for both stock and modded 99-04 harnesses. I plan to rework my stock harness myself. Let me know if you want the info. A couple wires differ from manual to auto, but it's easy to fugure out. As far as the ECM/PCM, I went through Jesse (user: wait4me on this site) who sold me a tuned ECM for a great price. I have a '61 short/step, a '69 short/step (soon to be short/fleet), and a 69 Suburban. Good luck with your '70, and post pics soon!

Here's what I have. I tried to find the original link, but could not. Someone posted the pinout for his '99 harness which had been professionally modded. I then highlighted all the removed pins from the stock pinout in green. From what I gather, there are no relocated or jumpered signals in the modded harness. I have yet to mod mine so anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't worry about the 98 info or the yellow cells. I was comparing 97-98 to 99-04 pinouts to see if one can be made into th other (they can, all the same signals exist. Just a different pinout).
