Default Crank Re-Learn

I'm getting closer to cranking it. Just wondering about the crank re-learn. How is it done w/o edit/tuning s/w? Is it something that's done before or after I get it running? Search did not turn up anything. Thanks

Unless it sets the code for it not having been performed there is no need to do it. The pcm will not forget it after being powered off for extended periods of time. This is to the best of my knowledge so don't slaughter me if i'm off.

I have a new PCM. I read that it must be done in this case.

If you replaced the PCM, then it will probably set a code for it. AFAIK, there is no other way then a bi-directional scantool/tuning software.

Having experience with GM L67s (Supercharged 6), which is a cousing to the LS1 sensor/PCM wise, I'd say it should run fine without it (actually, it has to, the engine must run before a CASE learn can happen). It may get some slight misfires (nothing major), and it's not likely to have even those. It will actually relearn on it's own over several hundered miles of driving, but the proper thing to do would be to take it to a dealer, and have them do the learn with a tech II. My dealer does it for free, I just tip the service guy-

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it learned during cranking or running.
