Default ls1 vs 6.0L

I have been looking for a LS1 to put in my 1970 nova, and recently I ran across a 6.0L out of a newer chevy pickup. My question is what is the difference between the two, and if I used this 6.0L would it sound the same as an LS1 and are readly available to build one of these motors up for a turbo set up. If all else fails can anyone tell me where I can get a decent used LS1 to build in the houston, TX area. THanks

Main difference is the block is an iron block and it has a different intake on it that flows a little better than an ls1 intake. It also has a truck cam in it other than that the heads are very similar to an ls6 head they are either aluminum or iron. If you are planning on throwing a turbo on it it wouldn't be a bad idea to go with the 6.0lts since it has a iron block and heads similar to the ls6.

Basically all of your LS1 parts will bolt up to it.

Cam, heads, intake, accessories, oil pans, headers, etc are interchangable.

Minus the weight hit, the 6.0L is a great option, more durable, easier to overbore, bigger, etc.

Default 6.0L vs LS1

Well if their basically the same, would they sound the same, because I wanted to use an slp loudmouth stule exhaust, also when going to order parts, would pistons, crank and other internals be the same as an ls1. Another question, whats the weight difference between the two. THanks

It will sound about the same as the LS1 with the loudmouth.
Pistons and crank are not the same. The 6.0 is a bigger bore and it uses a slightly different crank. Many of the internal parts are the same though.

The weight difference is around 85-100 pounds.

Speartech is the man when it comes to wiring. Contact him directly and he can answer all of your specific questions about the harness.

For engine mounts, search around this forum. There are plans to make your own or you can buy them from S&P (www.hotrodlane.cc).

There are lots of sponsors listed over there -------->
They all carry parts that will fit the 6.0 as well as the LS1.

As far as the truck intake, it does outflow the LS1 intake when the motor is stock. However, when you start modifying, it quickly falls behind. For factory intakes, get an LS6 intake or go aftermarket with the LSX.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your project. There is a wealth of information in our archives and the search button will help you find it. If you can't find something, feel free to ask away.
