5.3L or 6.0L LS truck engine for 3rd gen
Since trucks are plentiful and cheaper I have kicked around the thought of buying either the 5.3L or 6.0L to put in my 87 camaro behind a T-56. First, the truck engines use the same motor mounts as our LS1 f-bodies, correct? Also, would a LS6 intake work on that motor? What makes the 6.0's different from the GTO's LS2 other than the block being cast iron and is the fuel injection set-up the same as an F-body? Thanks,

I knew the intake and accessories were different, what I need to know is if the motor mounts are the same so I can buy that conversion kit from Hawks thirdgen. Thanks though

Mounts are the same as the LS1's in the camaros. I have a 6.0L w/aluminum heads and 39k miles on it for sale... let me know if you're interested. -Dave

just a note, i just put a 5.3 in a third gen. and the block is missing the casting where the lower alt bracket bolts on[f body acess.] also i had to drill and tap the upper bolt hole,i checked a 6.0 block and it was the same, appearently it is a truck thing. i made it work but it is a bit of a hassle.also i would go with the 6.0 more torque!!!

I'll have to stick with the f-body accessories then, I can't stand the look of that truck intake. Would 350 RWHP be possible with a 5.3L? I also have been considering the STS kit as well

small cam and a 5.3 should be close with bolt ons.
doubt it will do it stock.
buddy with long tubes, and free mods did 287 in his 02 5.3 truck to get you an idea.
full bolt on without cats you might get to 350, but id say its still gonna take a cam to push that level, IMO.

I sonic checked my 5.3 and the cyl. walls were thick enough to bore to a 5.7 bore size i installed some used pistons and rods from a 5.7 put larger valves out af a 5.7 and a ls-6 cam. the net result was 443 hp. and434 tq.at the flywheel, this stuff can be found at low cost. Just a option...
