Just like the title says, but if you have any third gen car with an ls1 , what did it weight?

Not a GTA but my 91 Z28 weighed about 3130 back when the LS1 was normally aspirated. That's was with no driver, no A/C, no back seat, and a non T-top car. It's up about 100 pounds now with the supercharger. But that's a NICE 100 pounds!

 

I weighed my car at 3360 with me 3230 without me. This is with all the AC still in and all the seats in. Power mirrors and windows. No jack and spare tire. Its a 92 RS.

 

whats the overal weight drop from before the swap to after?

 

In general the motor is about +-100 lbs less. I also have tubular k-member and a-arms which might be 30 lbs or so. If you went from a 700R4 to a T-56 you would probably save some more because I think the T56 is lighter.

 

I know from wheing parts that the engine heads and block are 2/3ds lighter then the old cast iron blocks and heads so there a rouph guess

 

so does it or does it not raise the front end up 1-2"s

 

Well I have 1" lowering springs, with an ls1 and all tubular parts and it looks lower than it was before I did all the work. Theoretically I would think it should but it didnt in my case.

 

I measured the ride height from different front end locations like from the bottom of the front frame to the floor before I remove the stock engine and transmission. After I get the car on the ground with the LS1 and transmission in it I will remeasure to see if it impacts the ride height.

When I re-measure I will post on my on going El Camino thread. I am not there yet. I am expecting slight ride height increase but I suspect it will be less than 1 inch. My installation placed the motor in almost the exact location as others have used motor mounts that move the motor up and more forward than a stock location. I would suspect my installation would show the most difference where the other installations with the motor more forward would show the least.

 

Yes! It definitely does. We've done 2 3rd gen swaps here (my car and a Firebird). Both sat 1-2" higher in the front afterwards.

 

I don't have any real good views showing the ride height difference. This one gives you a little idea of the change (maybe):

 

Here's the height difference on our car w/ sportlines. It was too low in the back w/ the springs in after so I went back to stock rear's.

It always seems to sit higher in the front when I push the pedal on right.

With the 1" lowering springs and after the swap do you run into any major difficulties. other then speed bumps ect..?

 

full weight, my car was 3615lbs with me in it.
it now weighs 3220 with me in it... i weigh 10lbs more then i did when it was weighed stock.
i still have skinnies, lightweight battery, lightweight carpet, and a few other mods to do to lose weight.

 

Well other than the springs not fitting real well in the spring pockets, and the oil pan, rack and pinion, and y-pipe being really close to the ground...nope, lol. I havent come across any speed bumps, and I hope I never do. I dont think I could make it over any speed bump.

 

sorry to wake up an old thread, but my gta clone weighed in at 3140 a couple weeks ago (its really an 84 converted to an 88)

 

Just in case anyone searches for weights on GTAs, mine was originally 3750 with me in it (225 lbs). (Yeah, it was a bit of a tank...) I did some weight reduction before starting on my L92 swap, & was able to take 110 lbs. out of the car. Once my swap is complete, I'll update this thread as soon as I'm able to weigh the car again.
