Default LS1 into E30 M3 need a little help

I picked up a t56 out of a 96 firebird is that going to be a problem mounting to a 02 camaro LS1 or 98 vette LS1. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question I don't have much knowledge when it comes to domestic power.

Is the 96 any different then later versions?
thanks.

Sure different engine, the trans should bolt up to an LS1 since they have the same bolt pattern. Since your shoving it into an E30 chassis is shouldn't matter. Not sure about the vehicle speed sensor or the reverse lockout(pretty simple), ignore the skip shift as its gay anyways.

Not an expert on the T56 but I'm pretty sure its different from the later LS1 T56.

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sell the M3 and buy something to put the LS1 into, there's plenty of people who would buy the M3 to put the S14 back into it, there was less than 5K imported between 88-92 probably less than 3K on the street

Drop a S52 in it

To bad there isn't a decent M3 style flare kit to put on the regular E30s.

Yeah I agree. E30 M3s are too valuable. Get a tired E30 325 and fire up the plasma cutter.

I can't believe I'm getting this kind of **** on this Forum.
#1 its just not that valuable, I can pic up $8500 high odo cars all day long
#2 I have one with no engine in it that I've only got $2500 into
#3 other e30 cars will need a good amount of money just to get close to handling/braking/aero's of the M3 and still won't look anywhere near as mean as it does.
#4 why should I spend $8500 and up on a rebuild of the s14 to have a car that will only put 215hp to the wheels.
#5 I've yet to see any evidence of balance and handling being terribly upset
winner of scca soloII this year was a e30 m3 with a S50 motor, the ls1 sits lower, further back from the front axles and wieghs about the same

doesn't it seem likley that if given the opportunity the M boys would have loved to drop in an all Aluminum V8..hmm seems to me thats what they had to do to make the last sports car racer competitive until it got banned and its what they will be doing when the next M3 that comes out only it will probably weigh over 3400lbs. What are cars about anyways? Brand loyalty? keeping them exactly like what the Factory intended them to be and nothing more? Making sure other people like your car and approve of it? NOT for me
Cars are about driving and the sensations you collect from that experience. They are about working on them, making them "better", faster, nicer to look at, meaner sounding.

Yes this car is special and I can understand why some would not want to change it but thats not my bag. If one day this car is for sale someone can buy it rip the LS1 out and no one will ever know it was defiled. I will not be cutting bending anything on the e30

I can't believe you're getting this on this forum either. Do what you want. It's your damn car. I hacked up a numbers matching '72 Vette that I'm sure some poor guy would've loved to have stuffed into his garage to sit until hell froze over.

rjd2 I agree with you and suprjames. what good is a car if you don't make it your's and modify it your way? how many car's rust to hell because nobody cared for them but one guy want's to make his speicel and everyone want's to get on there case. it's your car and your money enjoy it. btw if you don't do it sell me the car I'll for sure do it.

you can do what you want, but your right it's your car and you can do what you want, I personally would do the M5 to M3 swap, I think the weight of the LS would be too much for the front end, upset the 50/50 dis, no big deal, but I'll tell you I'll get WAY more than 8500 for my car, have fun if you do it post acouple pics Later Steve

thanks for the support, its funny I've been into VW's and BMW since I was 15 and I just realized for people who drive such progressivley engineered cars they are more opposed to change than one would think.

As an E30-M3-obsessed enthusiast-I say do it! Yeah teh car is badass in its own right but the LS1 will only make it better. Next to my RX7 swap, this would be the next one...

If you can, please keep an online journal or keep me updated! I would love to do this one day!
