I have had a '98 Camaro LS1 / T56 in my '81 Malibu for the last year and a half. You can see it on my Project Cars page on my site www.hpsalvage.com

This is cool seeing all of these conversions! Pretty soon the F-body crowd may have to worry a little bit next time they pull up to a stoplight

I'm working on putting an LS1 into a 67 Chevy II. My project is a bit more involved than just the engine swap (tube chassis, reworked firewall, custom floors, custom headers, 9 inch, etc.). I'm slowly making progress ... I just finished the driveline portion of the floor sheetmetal today. Some pics current through mid fall are at

Welcome aboard parsonsj (John)! I really like your 3" exhaust w/X-pipe. How did you decide on how much to cut into each pipe to make the "X" on each pipe?

Also, I wanted to see the completed headers pic's! I only say one side before. Where are they hiding? I didn't see them on the link above when I checked it out.

Nice progress! When will it be running?

I thought I read about someone swaping a LS1 into a 3rd gen RX7. Lord knows how he fit it in there, but I'd like to see it if someone knows anything about it.

Hi John! I see the Monte is getting the good press it deserves!

I have lots of pictures of the passenger side header (it turned out better than the driver side), but I've never done a writeup. I don't really have any place to post pics other than the pro-touring website. I'll include some passenger header pics along with some updates on the floors. I'll post here when I get that done (a few weeks).

I've added a body rotisserie, sheet metal brake, metal shrinker and stretcher, and a bead rolling and flanging machine to my shop in recent months. Lots of activity ... just not as much progress as I'd like. I'm probably still a good 18 months away from the car seeing the street. Even that may be optimistic ...

I read with interest nearly article here (just discovered it this weekend). I love the hybrid forum addition to LS1Tech. I'll be spending more time here now!

I cut a slice out of each 90 degree bend so that the area of the slice was the same as the area of the cross section of the tube. Interestly enough, when I did that, I found that made the X pipe a true X: There is now a straight flow from the left side to right (and vice versa). I was trying to show that with the 'framing square' picture. I remember cutting about 1/2 inch from the crown of the bend ...

John P, Is that the correct formula for an "X"? To equal the cross-sectional area of the pipe?

I'm no expert. I looked at every picture I could find on X-pipes and went with my design from there. My rationale is that a 3 inch exhaust is plenty for my intended power range (350-400 rwhp) and so I didn't think that I could do too much damage by cutting too little or too much from the 3 inch elbows.

I did plan ahead: I left plenty of room in the floor for me to try out different X pipe configurations if I'm so inclined in the future.

John,

Its a 4L60E, When I figure out how to post some pictures. I have some with the engine installed.

Your web site on your monte was great!

I've learned how to solve some of my problems
from your site.

I do have a question, from your price list,
a part no. is listed for a 90 degree elbow
but from where do you purchased it?

It looks like a part I could use.

These swaps don't come cheap. I've posted what it cost me to do mine at http://home.earthlink.net/~bzdel/PhaseISwapCost.htm and these cost don't include an $$$ for my labor so if you have someone else do any of the work, plan on spending more! Good luck!

JOHN,
Your getting there. I thought I would add my $.02 to the list. I am well under way building a 70 RS Camaro Fitted with a LS1 / T56 / 9" and many other mods too numerious to mention. Final assembly is under way, a few months in the body shop slowed me down. Details are available at look under Halfast.

Hey Tom,

Looks like you're getting there too! I'm guessing you'll be driving yours this summer. Motor mounts look good: simple and effective ... no tripping the knock sensor for you. How'd you do the crossmember? I didn't see any pics of that ... Did you modify the stock one?
