Default Painless now has a wiring setup for LS1...

saw it in the car mags this month, how complete is it??? this is new, I think, it requires you use a '98 PCM, but it takes care of CAGS and stuff for you.

I would get personal recommendations from these people so that you could talk to someone that has successfully used this product before being the first to try it. Painless does not have a very good track record when it comes to "bolt-in" aftermarket EFI wire harnesses for LT1's (IMHO and based on numerous feedback on the Internet!).

Could be worth a try though, maybe they have their act together now! What kind of price tag do they have on it?

If you go to Jegs and type in the Painless part number it's about $1200. I don't see any savings at all since you can buy the harness from S&P for about $900 and they will program the computer for another $150. Just a tip, but you can use any computer that matches their part number such as a xxxxxxxxx411 even if it came out of an S-10 V6. They are going to reprogram it anyway so it doesn't matter what vehicle it came out of. At least this way any one with the capability of plugging into the GM computer can troubleshoot it; maybe even a GM tech ;-).

Speartech has a harness for $700 and programing for $300, they can also tune for bigger cam etc. Plus people seem to swear by him, he is reworking my old harness for me right now. To rework a old one is $450, which can save you alot of money, plus he can use any year harness and computer.

I agree. Ditch the painful harness and contact Speartech. I have dealt with him and I have dealt with S and P. No comparison in quality and service. Speartech all the way.....

seen it at SEMA in Nov. and the guy said it calibrated for stock engines. I asked him
how programming would be accomplished and had no clue and none of the other people running there booth did either. Another vote for Speartech.

I just bought a painless for 500 from summit same price at jegs. Yes all you need is a 98-99 pcm. Then anybody can tune it for you. I'll let you know how mine comes out in a/b 3 weeks.

Yeah but that harness from Painless for $500 is not the same as their "Perfect system" that includes the computer, that we are talking about for $1200. The trouble with that harness is every component must the exact part number they require, and they will not support any others; such as TB, MAF's etc. With the above recommendations, I think I'll check int Speartech's harness and programming.

Speartech modded my harness for my son's 70 GMC Pickup LS1 conversion. They did a great job, great communications, and great follow-up help to get our Speedo working.

These guys used a Painless harness on this car:
http://hpfactoryltd.com/ironwolf/

I recall him saying it wasn't too bad to install for the most part. I'll see if I can't get one of the guys at the HPF to post in here with some more detail.

SmokinV8 is correct.

We used a painless harness in our American Iron race car. It was actually very well made. We eliminated alot of little things that we did not need in the harness but have had excellent results. I would say that for the price you cannot beat the painless harness. It is very complete, clearly marked, and alot easier to route than a stock harness. If you have any questions give us a call. Our number is on our website.

Isnt the $500 harness only for manual trans cars?

no the harness has a option for auto or manual, you just have to have your pcm program for auto or manual. got my pcm from a guy on here for 50. it came out of a auto car so 550 isn't a bad deal.

It would be great if I had a 98 ecm!!! But I dont, I have an 01, and I think its a waste to get an older computer. Speartech also claims to able to pull out wires for gauges and other cool little tricks. To rework an old harness is about the same as the painless. Painless needs to upgrade... work with other computers already!!!

Asked Painless about the difference.......
Peter,
The 60506 will operate the 98 up application.
Thank you for your interest in Painless Products.

My question was.... Isn’t the #60506 harness listed for pre ’99’s ? As I recall there was a change from ’98 to ’99 that makes them un-compateable………

Now I also have a ’99 TA LS1/T56 combo in the vehicle that I am trying to use as much of the emissions components as possible. What all does your harness include?

I'm still confused!!!!!!!!!!!

Painless, much like S&P are for the older check writing ******* who just want to put a stock late model EFI in a 35 Turck and ****. Most of their stuff is idiot proof, but boring! I'll be getting with Speartech next year when I do my Fox body!!
