Default Updated Project Pics - Vette Pick Up

It's been a while since I posted new pics. For those who don't know it's a 1961 Stepside Truck on a 1999 C5 Vette rolling chassis. I've relocated the rear suspension aft 7" and I'm in the process of mocking up the positioning of the bed parts. The rear wheel well arches will be changed to match the front next. The biggest obstacle I foresee is the stretching of the rear mounted T56. I plan to have a spacer made to go between the tranny and diff housings along with a new shaft once I find a capable machine shop.

Pics are here.

That thing is really gonna be bad ***. Love it. Hey just a question 'cause I haven't been able to find out about how much does that truck weigh (stock) I'm doing a 383ci SBC for my father to put in his '65 C-10 sport side. It's gonna be a little retro but with the holley stealth ram set up looks kinda like the old Vette ram jet set up. The weight will help me pick the cam.

Thanks. Sometimes I wish I kept it that simple That's why a have a '69 Suburban too. I think they're ~3800 lbs bone stock, but that's just a guess. I'd be interested to see what my curb weight is when I'm done. The vette chassis is pretty light, and I've cut a lot off the truck body.

I'm playing around with ideas, but if you see what I'm calling the "inner fenders" (stepside fenders on the inside of the bed as tubs), I plan to cut the tailgate to fit between them, hugging the contours, and still functional. I want the fenders to be the rear-most part of the truck to show off the lines of the doubled fender setup. They will be welded and smothed seamless.

The tailgate will be kicked back a little, and I'm trying to decide how much right now. You can see it positioned that way in at least one of the pics, but the inner fenders are off. Thanks for lookin!

Man I didn't realize they were that fat. Thought the were considerably lighter but that is good info. Thanks and good luck with your project.

Thanks, that's quite a compliment! These 60-66 trucks weren’t the prettiest when they came out of the factory. Most of them you see on the road (or side of the road) today just look like tired old farm trucks. I like them all, but I have the disease There are a few nice ones at shows and in magazines, but they are definitely a minority in that scene.

I'm hoping the changes I'm making to the body will work together well to bring out the potential of the lines without losing its character.

I’ve added a few pics of some custom bodywork I’m doing. More to come...

Thats pretty awesome. Looks like one hell of a project, and a lot of work. It will be worth it when all is said and done though.

Damn you have more work then what i thought that you did. Hey as for your questions about the torque tube. The shop in which you see my frame is a friend of mine's shop. His name is Gene and he deals with salvaged corvette's. I will give you his number. I am sure he would be more then willing to help you out with a good deal on a torque tube.
