Default LS1 in a VW Bug(Old style) :D

I went to a car show over the weekend and there was an old VW Bug with a Chevy Big Block sitting up front. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

It looked real nice and got me thinking about putting a stroker LS1 in one.

I never got a chance to talk to the guy about the conversion so I don't know if it was a custom deal or there is a kit to do this.

Does anyone know where I can find some info about a front engine conversion kit for a bug?

I bet it would weigh less than 2500# total. <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

Thanks

John

I seriously doubt if there's a kit for this. EVERYTHING would have to be redone. I saw a bug with a SBC in the back once. That would be hard but easier than putting it in the front.

One day when I have a garage I can work in and some spare money I think I might try this, By then maybe LS1 parts will be cheaper. <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

I've seen a Beetle with an Audi V8 mounted in the back; tight but it worked.

There is a company in Lemon Grove, California that builds front-engine/rwd frames for VW Beetles with widened fenders. The most common engine for this swap is traditional small block Chevy but you may be able to make a LS1 work. Their website is http://www.prostreetbug.com so you might want to check them out. Good luck, that would be a real monster when completed!

98c1500 - That is exactly what I was looking for. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Thanks alot!

One day this just may be a reality.

Like I said, I would love to learn how to weld and this would definately give me some experience. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

actually im thinkin thats a BOP 425 or 455 in that Ghia, Cad 472s and 500s had the distributor mounted at a slight angle in the front of the engine. and of course if it is a BOP its still really no less amazing. but there is even a small chance that its actually a small block
