thinking about my options in conversions...i have 1998 chevrlet s10 2.2L...just your run of the mill piece of **** s10...i would like to drop an LS1 into it but i was wondering if anyone knows of any major problems there would be with this..someone said that MTI can perform the conversion. Is this true? What are my costs going to look like? what times can i expect with just bolt-ons?
thanks,

I am performing the swap you are talking about on a 95 S-10 extended cab. I am using a 99 6.0L LS1 truck motor with A set of stage 2 MTI 5.7 LS1 heads and forged internals. I am also going to be using a 6-speed tranny and a ford 9In rear.
The truck that I have was also a 2.2 with a 4l60 tranny. There are a few clearance issues you will have to deal with. One being the oil pan. The oil pan will hit the cradle that runs underneath the motor. Now I am using the truck oil pan, there are a few people who have used the F-Body oil pan with out any issues. What I did was cut a relief in the cradle and box in around the area where I cut. The other obvious issue is the motor mounts them self. For this I used the factory 6.0 mounts and welded them to the truck frame. You can buy the mounts that will bolt to the stock stuff. But I found them to be high priced for what they were and was worried about their strength. Also not to mention the company that has these parts was rude on the phone and didn’t seem to be very helpful. I have a good friend that is a professional welder. He has done all of the welding and cutting that I needed done. If it wasn’t for him I am sure I probably would have done things a little different.
You may also have issues with the black box that the A/C lines run into on the firewall. I actually removed the A/C Stuff including the black box on the firewall. I replaced the black box with a Non A/C style box that is much smaller and allows a lot more room.
What I am trying to say is that the motor does not just drop in. If you need more info E-mail me And I will go into more detail. I also have part numbers and few phone numbers of people who you can talk to that can give you a lot of info.

You might check with this place also. I don't know if they sell parts or just do complete installs.

I can give you a heads up on Lee's hightech. I tried to contact the guy for a month trying to get a pcm reprogrammed and the jerk kept lying to me and never returned my calls then finally asked $550 to do it. Come to find out he sends them somewhere else to program them and charges you a hundred or two for his trouble.
Don't get me wrong, the trucks on the website look great but I converted my '99 for four grand so I can't see giving him nine or ten thousand dollars for it.
Sorry LSS1, not at all trying to slam your post, the guy just treated me like $hit...

I'm glad you spoke up--I would of hated to refer someone there and then them not get treated right. That's what great about this forum. I just hope they (LEES) see this!

Yes I also agree with the issues in regards to this company. They are the people I was speaking to about motor mounts. They gave me remarks such as " We don’t use 6 speed trannys, These people come to us and spend 15k and don’t try to do it them selves".
I will never do business with them.

Hey on this topic, Does anyone know if a stock fuel pump with work with the LS1 engine, or do I need to get the donar pump out of it. But I do know that the LS1 motor needs about 75 pounds of pressure to sufficiently run the motor so I would expect I need a pump that pushes at least close to 100 psi. But I could be wrong. That is just what I heard from some guy I was talking too.
