Default Shorting Problem

I went to start the car up today. Ran power to everything to make sure everything was kosher. Well the fuel pump turned on for a second and then quit. At which point I noticed that the PCM fuse had blown. I tried another fuse, This time there was no running of the fuel pump, and fuse instantly blew. I unplugged everything on the motor and tried another fuse, and had the same happen. So I walked away from it today, so that I could go at it tomarrow with a fresh perspective. Just wondering if any of you had any ideas about it? Think its a bad PCM? Wiring Probs? Any help would be appreciated. Also this is a LS1 with the 4L60E.

I had the same problem. I had to use a 20AMP fuse going to the PCM instead of a 10AMP fuse. Problem solved (at least for me!).

I even had a 20 amp blow on me, thats what I had in to begin with. I am going to unplug the computer tommarow and see if it still blows. Then I'll at least know it is a wiring related problem.

My shorting problem is from the Vats module I bought. Its reading a dead short between the positive and negative leads. This is one I bought off of Ebay. Is there a certain way this is supposed to be hooked up or did I just get screwed on it?
Thanks

I have one. I went ahead and had my PCM reprogrammed to eliminate VATS, so I don't need it.

I have the module, the ignition lock and the key that goes with it. The guy I bought my motor from used it to fire up the motor before I loaded it up.

Offer? $30 + shipping?

How does it get hooked up? Just like a normal resister type module?

I had the same problem but traced it back to my fuel pump grounding out. May be worth checking to make sure.

The key recepticle has 2 wires running to the box (still connected), a black ground, then there's an orange and a red wire for power (I think only one needs power for VATS), pink ign. on power, and a dark blue wire that goes to the PCM (circuit 229). You can use the yellow/black wire to activate the starter relay (ground) if you use the ign. switch. I was going to just wire the thing in and stow it up out of the way, using my datsun switch. That way, if I chose to, I could reach up and pull out the GM key for added theft proofing.

It has a buzillion wires coming out of it to control all kinds of things, but for VATS, it's just those few wires.
