Default ls2 402 rx7 tuning help

I drove my ls2 402 rx7 for the 1st time today. This thing has alot of TQ. The only problem I am having is that I get knock over 5,000. I have turned the timming down to 25 deg but I still have the problem. Does anyone have a program that would work for my combo. I need one that is from a 01 f-body ecu so i can load it using ls1edit.

402
Ported TEA 5.3 heads
236/236 601/601 115 cam
ls6 MAF that was calibrated but it is still off.
fast 90mm
30lb ford injectors

I am looking for a program that would be close until I take it to the dyno in 2 weeks. I plan on going with speed density on the dyno. Thanks for any help.

That thing will be a handfull. More torque in that lightweight car than I'd ever want, especially on those cookie-cutter tires.

I have 225 on my car right now. I have 255 drag radials for the strip, right now I am looking for some 18" tires so I can put on some 275 tires out back.

Sounds like a fun car!
Have you looked at your fueling? Could be that you are losing pressure or running out of injector above 5000rpm. What is your target wot afr set at? I am confused about your MAF setup. You state that you have an ls6 MAF calibrated but still off, and then you say that you will be going SD later on. If you have the MAF turned off or unplugged, then you are in SD already. Are you running a stock 01 fbody pcm? You said you had the timing turned down to 25*, but the 01s shouldn't have that much timing stock (they have the most conservative timing tables). I've looked through a couple of stock bins and it looks like wot timing should be around 19-20* on a stock program. I've looked through the hptuners bin repository, but haven't found any 402 files yet.

I would start by logging some data to narrow down the problem. Try logging kr, advance, iat, ect, ipw, O2 voltage, fuel trim error, rpm, and tps for starters.

My plan is to have the car tuned with SD on the dyno. But for right now I am using my old 428rwhp tune from my old rx7/ls1. I will take off the MAF when I get to the dyno. The MAF is from Pace and it was calibrated for the ls1. When I tried this MAF on my old RX7 the AFR was all over the place. I think that I will put in some 42# injectors before the dyno. I have LS1edit for tuning my 01 ecu but I do not have any scaning ability.

you prob already checked, but make sure your fuel pump is getting enough voltage or else the pressure will nose dive (like mine did before i rewired the pump). sweet ride!
looking forward to seeing dyno numbers.

2MCHPWR, the fuel pump was the 1st thing that I looked at. I wired it the same way that I did on the last 4 ls1/fd's. It is either a bad tune for my combo or I need larger injectors.

I wish that someone out there would share there 402 dyno program.
