Default LS1/Notchback Conversion Costs?

Just out of curiosity what did you or your friends have invested in an ls1/notchback conversion?

I was thinking of doing a cam only/spray/rock on 4l60e/8.8 notchback car on a budget.

The motor/tranny would come from my car.. of course this is in the future, as I have not even got all my parts in and installed on my car.

Probably build the 8.8 for alot cheaper than a 12 bolt, not only that shave off a few hundred pounds and still have some form of a car. Not to mention a mustang rolling chassis that'll hook 1.2's-1.3's is cheap as hell.

Peace,
Josh

if you already have the motor and tranny it wouldnt cost you much at all, you'll just have to worry about fabrications and be sure to keep all your nuts and bolts from your car together for the swap.. b/c all that little stuff adds up fast!!

building a 89' coupe w/ ls1 now... if any questions just ask!

starting w/ absolutely n othing, my goal is do to the entire swap for $5,000. I have kept detailed logs of pricing so far and I am very confident It can be done. This includes full tubular front suspension w/ coil overs, autometer gauges and 31 spine axles, spool and c clip elims. It WILL take work on your part to make it happen though.

I purchased a 99 firebird hit in rear w/ low miles for $4500 and parted most of it out and recouped a good 2,000 so far and expect over 3,000 when im done. I got the stang for 3k and plan to sell all of its drivetrain and rims/tires for around $1,000. I've got a spreadsheet I will link up in a little bit.

I'm going for a complete setup under 10k, but going a bit more in the "custom" direction too. Some things I've worked KILLER deals on, swapped work for parts, etc. so don't freak when you see some really "odd" prices.

Code:
Running/driving 5.0L Mustang 2700
Stock LS1 bottom end, ported heads, mild cam 650
LS6 intake 200
LS1 throttle body 35
4L60e trans, fully built to handle 700HP+ 700
Precision Industries "Vigilante 3200" converter 300
Wolfe subframes and torque box plates 250
Competition Engineering roll bar GIFT
AJE 4.6L k-member 200
4.6L motor mounts FREE
18-circuit wiring harness 120
1998 LS1 PCM FREE
1998 LS1 wiring harness, engine and under-hood 100
LS1 Camaro radiator FREE
LS1 Camaro cooling fans 50
LS1 Camaro A/C system (everything) 175
LS1 Alternator 25
LS1 Truck/new style Starter 25
5.0L headers 80
LS1 exhaust flanges 30
3.5" U-bend, to make cold air kit 25
K&N cone filter 35
-------------------------------------------------------------
					Subtotal: 5700

Items sold:
Stock 5.0L engine, transmission, K-member, PCM, etc.	- 700
-------------------------------------------------------------
					Current total: 5000
I've actually bought more parts, but this is the running total to get the car "close" to being on the street. There's also a laundry list of things left to buy that are 100% necessary, like a driveshaft I'll also be adding all the stuff listed in the thread above, plus an interior color change, new carpet, new seats, custom upholstery on the seats and door panels, custom wheels, tires, etc. Then there's the cost of paint and materials, because the car isn't staying that blue either. I'm sure it'll easily be 10k wrapped up in it by then, maybe I should change my estimate to 15k

here is my breakdown so far. I have yet to get gauges, headers and full exhaust. I do plan to also buy 31 spline axles, a spool, strange adj. shocks/struts and a rear coil over setup, but I could get by w/ the OEM stuff if need be.

I still have to sell:

WS6 hood
front bumper cover
chrome 18" rims/tires
long tube headers
borla exhaust
o2 sims
offroad Y pipe
rear end
fuel tank
