Default Mack daddy wiring thread

Crainholio is going to hate me but I need some wiring help....

Question one: For my old dummy light sensor wires....Where can I delete them at? I do not need the light that I'm pushing the brake pedal too hard, I have no low oilpressure dummy light anymore, yada yada.

Question two: Is there any way for me to run my fuel pump relay into my key cylinder rather then running a manual fuel pump switch? When I turn my key all of the lights on the dash go dead(Original set-up doesn't require any live wires when cranking, except the coil) Is my best bet just to run a manual fuel pump switch?

Question Three: Am I safe to run my gauge light power wiring to the instrument fuse? I have no OEM instruments or dash lights in the car. Just the new gauges. I think I'm safe doing this?

Question Four: Anyone know what color wire on the dash light/headlight **** is the park light wire? The instructions say to plug the white wire into the low light instrument wire(which I get when I pull the **** to turn my park lights on).

Picture time... This is my fuse block that is inside the car(duh)

Ok, off my wiring harness done by Jesse I have the following wires to plug in I know where some go, but others I do not.

Ignition power when key is on (3 bigger red wires)
All time Battery (1 small orange) ???
Fuel Pump relay (1 green/white) Hook this straight to the fuel pump wire(I believe on the painless harness it is the small yellow?
Speedo Output (1 light green/white) goes to green speedo wire
OBD II (1 Green) used for programing? No use for now?
Malfuntion light (1 brown/white) Hook an LED to it, ground it.
Brake Pedal Switch (1 purple) which wire White or Orange do I splice into?
Tach Output (1 white) Goes to blue tach wire
Cranking Voltage (1 purple) ???

For gauges
Tach signal (1 blue).... This one goes to the Tach output on the harness
Speedo singal (1 green) This one goes to the Speedo output on the harness

Control unit for gauges
12 v Battery (1 red) ???
12v when ignition is on (1 orange) ???
12v wire small lamp on, illumination (1 white) ???
Ground (1 black) We all know where this goes

I hate fuseable links so my main question is, if I can run the wiring through the fuse block that needs a fuse, how do I go about doing so.

If you have time, help a brother out a bit. Even if you can help me with 1 wire it is greatly appreciated. I'm blind to wiring.

Question two:
See below

Question Three: I don`t see any problem with that.

Question Four: probably white or brown but I am unsure on that old of a car.

Ok, off my wiring harness done by Jesse I have the following wires to plug in I know where some go, but others I do not.

Ignition power when key is on (3 bigger red wires) I would use a relay, use a bosch style automotive relays( 4 pin 30 amp available almost anywhere) connect terminal 30 to battery constant, 87 to these wires , 85 to ground and 86 to Ignition hot IE: your coil power wire.

All time Battery (1 small orange) ??? To a fuse with constant power can be direct off battery or in fuse box (did jesse spec a fuse size?)

Fuel Pump relay (1 green/white) Hook this straight to the fuel pump wire(I believe on the painless harness it is the small yellow? Using a bosch style relay hook this to terminal 86, terminal 85 to ground, 30 to battery constant, and 87 to the fuel pump + side

Speedo Output (1 light green/white) goes to green speedo wire I think this is the output for your speedo, not sure if jesse uses direct from VSS or if this is the sig out of the computer.

OBD II (1 Green) used for programing? No use for now? This goes to the OBD II diagnostic plug under the dash, its the serial data signal, useful for reading codes.

Malfuntion light (1 brown/white) Hook an LED to it, ground it. I cant remember for sure but should be a ground output, hook it up to an LED or a standard 194 bulb and hook the other side of the bulb to an ignition hot wire.

Brake Pedal Switch (1 purple) which wire White or Orange do I splice into? I don`t know what color, have to check w/ jess but probably hook it to the one that gets + voltage when you step on the break pedal.

Tach Output (1 white) Goes to blue tach wire
probably should be hooked up to your tach if you have one,

Cranking Voltage (1 purple) ??? this is your starter wire, hook it to the purple wire that went to your old starter, it is the large purple wire coming off your ignition switch.

For gauges
Tach signal (1 blue).... This one goes to the Tach output on the harness
Speedo singal (1 green) This one goes to the Speedo output on the harness

Control unit for gauges
12 v Battery (1 red) ???
12v when ignition is on (1 orange) ???
Check w/ jesse on these two, normally orange is a constant hot, pink is used for wires that are hot with the ignition on.

12v wire small lamp on, illumination (1 white) ???
Ground (1 black) We all know where this goes

I hate fuseable links so my main question is, if I can run the wiring through the fuse block that needs a fuse, how do I go about doing so.

You might be able to, but you have to be sure the wiring to the fuse box can handle the additional amperage, I am not sure what jesse says to use for fuses, so I can`t really help there. I would just use an underhood fuse box from a 4th gen V6 f-body, they were also used in a lot of FWD cars and have plenty of room for fuses and relays. That was what I used.

Wow, Thanks! Would you be able to snap a pic of your under hood fuse block?

Edit: Also, the gauges are direct from Japan so their wiring could possibly be different then domestic such as Autometers...? Defi is the brand of gauges I'm using.

Never heard of that brand of gauge before, do they have a wiring diagram? If they do and you are unsure how to hook them up I can probably help if you can scan it and post in the thread. Hope everything was clear enough in my answers above, I don`t think I left anything out but I was in a hurry. Didn`t want to be late for class , well mabey I did but..... Let me know if you have any more problems. Heres a few pics of my fuse box. I pulled it out of a 96 V6 camaro but I noticed that a bunch of the midsize 80`s to 90`s FWD cars use the same one. I reused the terminals inside it, just soldered my wires onto them.

Question #2, the fuel pump relay doesnt need power while cranking, just hook it to an Ignition Source like the spade terminal in the middle of your fuse box labeled "Ign" .......... Question #3, the Instrument fuse is NOT for instruments, its for the instrument lights and it was only a 3 amp fuse which also answers Question 4 since you can just put the Instrument fuse back in and then plug your new gauge light wire leads into the spade right next to the inst fuse and they will work and dim as they are supposed to off your light switch. HTHs......... Bill

I kinda got confused at the "plug your new gauge light wire leads into the spade right next to the inst fuse" ... Your talking the "inst. lps." fuse correct?

Whats the "lps" small fuse slot for? I remember blowing a fuse or 2 while screwing around under the hood. I can't remember if I pulled a fuse from the spot I'm talking about???

I'll come over and give you a hand if you want. Give me a call at work, I'll be there all day tomorrow. It won't take long to get it all straight. The wiring always looks harder than it is. I could also use something to get me out of the house a little bit.

The Inst Lps small fuse is for the instrument lamps and the spade terminal next to it is powered thru the Inst Lps fuse so if you plug your new gauge light wires into it, it works just like GM intended it to. HTHs......... Bill
