im trying to find out if anybody knows if there are any headers that will fit into a third gen camaro w/an ls1 besides the hawks headers.

yes there is...unfortunately I cant remember where I saw them. I know, not much help. Im going to make my own for my 91 Z28 swap. No way in hell Im paying $1000 for a set of plain headers....maybe for a set of stepped full race headers. You can get a header kit relatively inexpensive, and with a little time and some good welding...there you go.

I've yet to see any proof that any long tube headers fit the thirdgen. When I looked at some FLPs my roommate had laying around, they header dumps right into the frame rails, where the hawks go on the inside of the frame rails.
So I'm going to say no, until I see proof, that nothing else fits.

hawks has the custom ls1 lt for thirdgens but it would take a sign from God for me to pay 1000 for them. 98 ls1 manifolds are supposed to fit well enough to make a y-pipe and not hit anything. Thats what ive read. Am I wrong?

ya the manifolds fit fine, thats what im running right now, im just ready to uprage my exhaust before i do my cam swap. i just cant see myself droppin $1k on a set of headers from hawks.

please dont get me wrong hawks is an excellent resource and they know what they are doing. They had to put a lot of R&D into those headers thats why they cost so much. And I believe that they are made when orders so its not like they are being mass produced which adds to the cost.
just wanted to clarify that I am not bashing them at all. I guess im just cheap that way...

Luckily I only need the headers and no y-pipe. I have a mufflex exhaust that went all the way to the hooker super comps (on the old SBC). I am hoping that the Hawks headers line up w/ the exhaust so all I have to do is cut off the 3 bolt flange that bolted to the Hookers!!!
Why do I get the feeling its not going to be that easy

This might be a stretch, but how about getting a set of Hooker BBC swap headers, cutting off the flange, and "adjusting" the primaries to fit the Gen III? Of course, you'll need to source a Gen III flange, also. Just thinking out loud.

the BBC headers kinda suck for thirdgens... they go thru the fenderwell (requiring a hole cut) and wrap around the front subframe.
a better solution thats similar is the hooker SBC headers, modified... theres a thread with pics here about it:
http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...ht=LS1+headers
WARNING: dont buy anything from that guy, he ripped me and another guy off for the money, and it took almost a year to get it back....
between then and now, Hawks came out with theirs.... for what you're getting it is a good deal. im not crazy about their Y-pipe, but mostly because i have a custom crossmember allowing a better exhaust routing.

But anyway, good link on the modified SBC headers..... I just thought the layout of the BBC primaries would be closer to the Gen III layout.

Id say the Hawks headers are worth it. Your not going to get a set of stainless steel headers for a 4th gen LS1 for any cheaper than that. Plus the quality is awesome. Mine were REALLY easy to install, the only thing I had to do was clearance one of the pipes because it didnt clear the steering shaft because I have an aftermarket rack and pinion, so the steering shaft is closer to the headers than it would be stock.

if its not all out drag race, id say go with stock manifolds.
i had a set of z06 manifolds on my car, so im sure i didnt pick up as much from the headers as others.
here are my results.
stock manifolds 3in y and 4in catback
best pass of the day
7.231
95.55mph
all others were within a few hundredths. lowest mph was 95.3x
headers with same exhaust.
best pass of the day
7.248
96.96!!!!!
picked up some MPH, so there is more HP there, but i think i lost some torque.
60ft was down from 1.58-1.60 to 1.63-1.67.
lost some on the bottom, moving on the other end.
im sure my 1/4 would really benefit from headers, as will my nitrous.
all of thesre runs were in almost identical weather, and alll motor.
worth the money, but not.
your call.
they look really nice.
